October 25, 2022. I'm going through this process now. I agree with another, here that a lot of this is totally ridiculous and it's all about money. A certified copy of your passport is nothing more than a regular old copy and then a guy putting his stamp on it and charging you 50 bucks to say yeah it's an original document. Total fucking crime. They should give you a tube of KY jelly for the reaming. And don't forget you're not only paying for the English version, but then you have to pay again for certification of the Thai document. They get you coming and going. I flew up to Chiang Mai from Chon Buri province, but neglected to get a certified copy of the passport as we thought we were to get married in Chiang Mai, and Chiang mai does not require certification of passports. Do check with Amphur. If however you're getting married in say Pattaya or Bangkok, then you need a certified copy of your passport. As it turned out the waiting time was over a month for an appointment in Bangkok. They have a mail-in service that takes 7 to 10 days, but you need to provide bank drafts overnight courier services etc. it's a mess of paperwork. Again it's all money driven there's no good reason to put people through this hell. I talked to at least one other guy at the translation office who is having to come back. Unless you're here for a number of months it's hard to get done in a timely fashion. And let me tell you if you do want things done in a timely fashion, nobody will mention it, but a lot of times it requires bribe money. Like 30 to 40,000 baht to push things through. Totally corrupt. Welcome to Thailand where they smile so much because they love reaming you for all your dollars. I'm hoping I can get everything done in the 45 days I'm staying here. And lastly the documents need to be legalized by the Ministry of foreign affairs, but there is nothing on their website about the service. I'm not even sure there is one in Chiang Mai anymore. For the amount of documents that need to be legalized you would think there would be a more information on the process. I have contacted an attorney on this one to see what the procedure is, but if anybody else knows please chime in. Again, it's one of these researching if the documents are authentic yada yada and paying yet again. Translation is required, yada yada, Open your wallet again. Totally turned off by all the crap. Getting married should be an exciting romantic thing, but instead it's just a bunch of legal BS and jumping through hoops and paying for the inconvenience of it all.

I used this video to get married to my Thai wife and it works. Thank you! Everything was 100% accurate. My recommendation is contact the translation agency first (because this process if a Thai woman is involved requires a lot of translation). They will guide the process. I also recommend Chiang Mai and not Bangkok. Friendly and easy in Chiang Mai. But the steps the agency guides you through are very similar to this video.

How many days before the amphur in chiang release the certificate? We just came in Bang Rak Amphur, just this afternoon. They told us that it would take 1 month to release the certificate. My husband has a return ticket to Canada. If it would take 1 month then his return ticket would be useless. My question is, how many days did you got your marriage certificate in Chiangmai? If it would take a day, then we will fly to Chiangmai tomorrow.

Hi Guys, we were there in May. We took too many snacks with us but everything else we pretty much used. On the way up, we left some dirty washing at our tea house in Namche Bazaar and picked it up on the way down, which lightened the load. We didn't do much training before as we had been living in Chiang Mai and working from home most of the time but we still survived! I think the trick is just to go slow, plan in lots of acclimatisation days and give yourselves as much time as you can. We booked return flights to start with but when our departure was delayed we were easily able to adjust the return flights at the airport counter (I think you can also call). The airlines that serve Lukla are used to people having to rearrange flights and they didn't charge us a fee, it's a just a flat rate for all flights, unless it's changed since we were there. Don't be anxious, you'll have an amazing time! We have loads more info on our blog about the trek, let me know if you have anymore questions: www.ourbigfattraveladventure.com/2017/07/07/our-everest-base-camp-trek-itinerary/

@@hanlens_on_hiatus Thanks Craig :) Yes, I think taking Diamox for the whole thing or from Namache up would have helped. Amy really didn't like the tingly fingers, toes and face side effects though, as they reminded her of the on-set of a migraine, so she decided to stop taking them. She did however feel really ill at Base Camp and started taking them again then (at that point they didn't really help, the only thing that did was descending). I would recommend taking a supply with you and seeing how you feel. If you have time to acclimatise in Kathmandu first and plan lots of rest days along the trail that will help too. @@hanlens_on_hiatus ok, I think January will be pretty cold, so we'd definitely recommend a good sleeping bag and jacket, waterproofs too. Sounds like you're doing a lot more training than we did (we were in Chiang Mai for 10 months beforehand, mainly working from home on our laptops!) so I'm sure you'll be fine. However, we know we have to go to the British Embassy to get our affirmation of freedom to marry... My question is whether we have to book two appointments (one for my partner and myself) and also whether they release more dates and times? Whenever I check the online booking system there are only 6 or so appointments to choose from! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
