Hi, what month did you do the trek in?

Hi Craig, we did the trek in May.

@@ourbigfattraveladventure771 Thanks, it looked like hard work. Do you think taking diamox earlier may have made things easier and did you do any training beforehand? Really enjoyed you vlogs by the way.👍

@@hanlens_on_hiatus Thanks Craig :) Yes, I think taking Diamox for the whole thing or from Namache up would have helped. Amy really didn't like the tingly fingers, toes and face side effects though, as they reminded her of the on-set of a migraine, so she decided to stop taking them. She did however feel really ill at Base Camp and started taking them again then (at that point they didn't really help, the only thing that did was descending). I would recommend taking a supply with you and seeing how you feel. If you have time to acclimatise in Kathmandu first and plan lots of rest days along the trail that will help too. When are you going?

@@ourbigfattraveladventure771 Hi we are planning to go at the end of Jan next year. We are doing training to get fit but here in Perth, Western Australia its pretty flat and at sea level so we are concerned about the effects of altitude.

@@hanlens_on_hiatus ok, I think January will be pretty cold, so we'd definitely recommend a good sleeping bag and jacket, waterproofs too. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any way to really prepare for altitude, everyone reacts to it differently and you might be fine one time, but not the next. Sounds like you're doing a lot more training than we did (we were in Chiang Mai for 10 months beforehand, mainly working from home on our laptops!) so I'm sure you'll be fine. If you're carrying your stuff, pack as little as possible. Have you seen our blog posts about the trek? We have loads of info about gear, costs, where we stayed, our route: www.ourbigfattraveladventure.com/countries/nepal/ hope you find that helpful and let us know if you need anymore info :)
