Split several tractors with my father when I was a teenager (we owned a service station). I want to restore my trusty 2030 and rebuild the motor. I can't find a grown man or shop anywhere willing to do it. It seems like mechanics near me only want to work on tractors with lots of fiberglass, computers, gps & air conditioning. If I get time, I will do it myself. I remember being impressed with a fender mounted AM radio. I guess that was a gateway drug to more high tech! Sorry I am 4yrs late to your party. Hello from Indiana, USA.

On the 2030 it lends itself to an in frame rebuild if the crank is ok.

The place is looking great Lance. Rain is essential. Even here in central Gippsland Victoria aka “ Pot hole “ it is quite dry. I have a MF 240 with a leaking pin that the hydraulic arm attaches to. Question. Can I access it by removing the top off the gearbox or do I need to remove the wheel, axle and housing.
@BundyBearsShed4 күн бұрын
You need to pull the trumpet housing off, but if you pull the left hand one you caan drop the diff out and get to both sides.

My 2355 has this design steering column and there is almost half a steering rotation of play before the steering reacts either way. What might be the cause of this? My 2155 has minimal play and behaves much more reliably when steering.
@BundyBearsShed4 күн бұрын
The shims on the valves will probably need adjusting.
@dstimpy124 күн бұрын
@BundyBearsShed it almost seems as though there is a portion of that play where the washer behind the bolt affixing the pitman arm on the left side, the washer rotates but does not engage the pitman arm for about 30 degrees of rotation. No leaks that I can see.
@BundyBearsShed4 күн бұрын
Yes I have seen the pitman arm wear like that, tighten it up with a 15/16 socket and see if that helps. The spline is on a taper.

Hello Lance, very many thanks for your series of videos. I watched your rear crankshaft seal replacement video and bought the various parts for clutch replacement and oil seals etc. The rear main oil seal was some obscure make and appears to be made from old recycled car tires, it is so stiff you would not believe it. Anyway, knowing Queensland quite well I know generally the daytime temperatures are quite high so I left this rear main seal in the warm overnight. But in the morning it was still so difficult to install, impossible in fact. I have therefore tracked down a Sparex part and will try that when it arrives. I will let you know how I get on with the genuine article. All the best from North West France. - Tony Hillyard

hi sir. hope you can give me some idea on where my problem could be. it is a 3040 sg2, it has some hydraulic problems. everything (hi/lo works great,) is "ok" until it gets up to operating temp. then the hydraulic starts shaking (loose power steering) and the main pump is starving of oil (can hear knocking from the pump) the oil and ALL filters are new.
@BundyBearsShed5 күн бұрын
If it still does it whith the hi/lo in low i would reseal the lift cover, with it leaking the front pump cant build up enough oil th shut down.

@@BundyBearsShed Hi Lance, my brother who lives in Perth WA came up against this last year, when they were told you've got too much money

By the way, how would you clean up all of the slimy bits "in the bush" - i.e. like me, without a parts washer. Any tips? 👍👍
@BundyBearsShed7 күн бұрын
We would always carry a cut off 20l oil drum and a stiff bristle parts washing brush and use either diesel, kerosine or petrol, depending on what we had with us and where we were. We did carry a petrol air compressor theough which was a big help.
@michaeluk25678 күн бұрын
Great stuff Lance, back on the 65! On my mk1, if I grab the top of the rear tyre and I give it a good shake perpendicular to the chassis, there's quite a few mm of back and forth play - it feels like the bloody wheel is hanging on by its fingernails. I'm wondering what part of the final drive might be worn to cause that - maybe that cone, or maybe the thrust washers are missing (or turned to dust) - any thoughts on what to look for in there? Apart from the knowledge of how to get it to bits, I think a big part of the experience that I'm missing is being able to look at all of the individual bits and judge what might be serviceable and what is lunched. You've inspired me to take it to bits and have a gander. Cheers Mate.

I have a '58 MF 35 with a clicking Low 1st and R gears not in other gears (suspecting idler needle bearings rotted or broken idler tooth, clicks about once every four to six foot tractor movement, sold to me as a parts tractor but I've refurbished it to working again, following many of your videos) and will need to do a transmission teardown next spring. I already did a trans rebuild on my '55 TO35 (the smallest but I think it was the hardest working tractor on the farm when I was a kid, bought new to the farm back in the day) that had shifter lockup and revealed some spline+gear spalling on the set Ferguson upgraded in production a few months later (build date indicates May 55 and trans upgrades happened in Aug 55 or so); all following your 65 transmission series since it was much the same and really helped. So not only are you saving tractors, you're certainly helping us save more of them.
