I really hate how these programs try to ramp up the drama every 3minutes by telling us over and over about critical deadlines that will cost millions if they don't get it done. I find myself hoping they don't make it.

As fascinating as this is there is an inherent problem with doing anything that will hasten the further destabilization of the Arctic Ice Pack. The Eastern Siberian Ice Shelf is a perfect example. According to Natalia Shakhova leading Methane Clathrate Geologist who's famous decades long field research has illuminated a very dangerous problem that if allowed to play out would probably release huge ammounts of atmosheric Methane. Enough to substantially accelerate global warming. In addition the reduced collective surface albedo of a disappearing Arctic Ice pack will also contribute to global warming. No wonder the Arctic is warming 8 times faster than the rest of the Earth according to NASA and NOAA.

The mv "Arctic" of Canarctic / Fednav, that was launched in 1978, that is shown at the beginning of this video - it is the 'trailblazer' of cargo-carrying merchant icebreakers. This vessel was built under a consortium of the Canadian Government, Canarctic & Fednav. It was designed as a prototype and test platform for a planned fleet of some six vessels, to haul minerals in bulk, out of the high Canadian Arctic. Her initial task was carrying zinc concentrate out of the Nanisivik mine, on northern Baffin Island to Antwerp, Belgium. Lloyd's ice class 1A Super; Canada ice class 3 (2.0 kts in 1.5m ice). Dwt 27700. She was built at Port Weller Dry Docks, in St. Catharines, Ontario. The mv "Arctic", was the first.

FINALLY someone that KNOWS about this ship 👍!You are 💯 correct Gerry ! I was a all position welder that worked on the "Arctic "retrofit @Port Weller Dry docks ! She was at the time a huge cargo carrying double bottom ship that needed upgrades with all the latest gear and reinforcement ! It was NOT indoors at Port Weller but in the outside drydock during winter which for me welding in the double bottoms to say the least was NOT pleasant at all ! No special safety measures in those days ! Thank YOU for posting this info ! 👍

With all of the concern about the polar ice melting. Why do they continue to create vessels that contribute to the problem? Breaking the ice will cause it to melt at a more rapid rate. A solid unbroken mass of ice will stay frozen longer than it would, if it were broken into smaller peices. Stop breaking the ice... Where are the activists on this one...? I am not a global warming activist. But this... is just common sense. Stop breaking the ice, and the polar regions will not melt as fast. The science is simple. One cubic foot of mass has 6 square feet of surface. Split that cube in half and you add an additional 2 square feet of surface. In terms of ice. That means there is one third more surface exposed to the ambient temperature than there was before it was split. It will melt faster. Stop breaking the ice...!!!

This is the way the ice booked 40 years ago the ice and doesn't even look like this anymore it's all filthy dirty it melts fast is turn the ocean into a wash machine oanda 10% Ocean map I've been hearing that for 50 years does steel saying it today after the fleet of trident's in the eighties I doubt if there's any ocean left

That's why we got airplanes maybe these guys breaking all the ice up started the Melt they don't probably have to worry about that anymore but sure want to Pat themselves on the back of the act like it has to be done. They were hiding monsters and fighting monsters and it pretty much looks like they're losing

If the bridge ever will collapses, it’s the woman’s fault, they replaced man who just build and managed the bridge and 2 woman now managed this construction, who have no part in this construction not even had given any architectural input to build this monumental bridge.

I wonder if the steel used at front and back is a higher quality to withstand the ice cutting, I know the saltwater ice is different than freshwater, I am of the understanding that arctic sea ice is softer and not as brittle as freshwater ice. just another engineering marvel .... and yes, I spend some 15 years in the High Arctic and have gone on the sea ice often for hunting...

History timeline is important in this project. Fire in SF and rebuilding housing / business, required local manpower and tradesmen who had to travel AROUND the bay without vehicles, and no where to reside IN the city. Steel fabricated into movable components on the EAST coast of US. Shipped to West coast and stored. Used only recently completed Panama canal to do so. As bridge was being constructed, Henry Ford is paying $5 a day also, and automobiles are only beginning to become popular. Check out docs on gift from France project, cast, crated, shipped to USA, and assembled in NY harbor. Also a target risk by weather and terrorist attack. Lady Liberty.
