I've always got the feeling that BSP figmas are the test bed model for hyper body line by the look of the double joints and the off-scaleness / deviation from 1/12

Fair enough. I love Nadare's works so I'm all in but the designs are for a particular niche for sure. Same reason why I have the entire Neco Figma line. I just love Neco's designs especially the Falslanders. The new joints are definitely something I like. Hope they keep innovating and not remains stagnant after this. Also thanks for the review.

I had this on preorder when it first went up months ago but cancelled it last December just before it released. I initally wanted to get it because I was curious how Figma implemented the hip/butt design and was hopeful they could make it look seamless. But after watching a review of the most recent bikini Sophia and seeing that it shares mostly the same engineering as this one, I wasn't too happy with it and that's the main reason I decided not to get this one. One thing I wish reviewers would do for figures like this that have a largely exposed butt is to show viewers what it looks like from behind when the legs are fully bent forward or spread. Almost all figures so far have had poor implementation of this and they end up looking like they have a double butt (because of a butt flap) or have very ugly joints/gaps that destroy the look of the butt (like this one). I don't count figures that have clothing over the butt cheeks because those can easily camouflage the joints or robotic/mecha figures. Some of the few figures I have in this 1/12 scale that have done the butt perfectly are the TBleague figures (but they're silicone based so not something you'd leave posed for a long time), the Nana Hoshikawa figure from some Chinese brand, and the SHF Yamato figure from One Piece (if you remove/look under her hakama). I'm hoping the upcoming Mummy girl figure from Snail Shell does the butt perfectly, but since none of the promo shots show it from behind while in a sitting position, I won't know until I receive it.

@@archienov hey arch, thanks for your comment, I appreciate it! I think the best butt shot I have is when she’s holding the huge sword but it’s not in the video. But yeah the hip joints are visible from behind if her legs move apart, moreso if legs are bent forward. The FALSLANDER figmas look worse from behind having the double butt you mentioned. This would have been better if she can do a proper sitting pose. Not sure if Snail Shell can “fix” this issue but looking forward to see how they approach things moving forward. I’m not expecting much of a change though. I’ll watch reviews of that Nana Hoshikawa figure. I think I saw one before from NostalgiaUnboxed. Again thanks for the insight 😊

@@studioaureal Sure no problem. If you do decide to get Nana, you may want to just display her without the skirt. One of my few gripes with the figure is that for some reason, they made her skirt out of hard plastic. Guess they really wanted us to remove it lol. Anyways, I will continue my search for 1/12 scale figures with the perfect butt so I can do the sexy S poses with the butt stuck out and back arched up or the sitting poses I want.

Well if you want to sell this figure it skyrocketed to near 2X the original price on the aftermarket! But no way am I going to spend 21K+ yen on a Figma! Hopefully they will make a cheaper plastic model kit version just like with Sophia Shirring.

I’ve been eyeing her in Good Smile Company Europe shop for months now haha but haven’t pulled the trigger 😅 I found one for sale on Ebay a few months back for £55 and I should’ve gotten her then. But we got to manage our expenses well. Loads more coming this year 🥲

That said, it is actually the first Sophia that has the edge in terms of articulation among the 3 Figmas released so far, having better hips articulation, a double jointed neck and less stuff in the way. With a Surfboard that doubles as a shield, a gun, a sniper rifle, a knife, a spear, goggles, 4 faceplates and water bottles the first release also has the edge in terms of accessories. Not to mention the fact that each faceplate is more unique compared to one another, which results in a wider array of expressions that go even farther with the goggles.

@@julianx2rl heeey! Thaaanks for this info! For some reason, the designs for Sophia didn’t grow on me. The surfboard reminded me of Eureka 7 but that’s it. I agree with you though, those accessories are dope. Are they all the same in terms of torso and hip sculpt or were there improvements along the way?

@@studioaureal - The upper torso is the same, however, the main difference is that the first figure uses the traditional T joint for the hips, while the newer ones use hinges. The problem with the newer ones is that there's not enough room for the legs to move forward due to the busier engineering, so they can't reach a full 90° angle, let alone further. The new setup has a hinge on the lower torso, but that's only really useful if you want to raise both legs at the same time, in other words, a leg spread (Fair enough if you want to do that tho!) - Although I did take a cool shot trying to come up with a good use for that hinge, you can look it up as "SFS - Hovering Break". A downside of the hinge is that you can't really move it backwards, just forward, which means that the new ones can't bump up their butts, which the old one can do. Figma Spider-Man actually achieved great hip articulation with hinge joints, but that's because they also threw ball joints into the mix!

The older hip joints you’re talking about, are those the ones you can pull down a bit that gives more range to the legs? I find those very useful but looks weird when sitting due the exposed joints. With this new hinge joint though you can’t actually do a proper sitting pose so casual everyday poses are out. The articulation is indeed limited when compared to other figma. They just can’t find that sweet balance. They just keep on experimenting these days I guess 😅

HUGE 😳 Definitely makes sense that the uhhh...something...wait there's armour...got distracted. Definitely the highest level armour in rpg 👀 I always think long hair could do with articulation, but then usually it doesn't add much so then it ends up being cut up for no reason. Great review as always, and funny that I saw her displayed in a storefront just last weekend.

Thanks!! Huge indeed. 🤣 I agree, adding joints to the hair also disrupt the shape. Long hair most of the time gets in the way of articulation, while even longer hair causes weight issues. We are yet to find a figure that solves these. I wonder how Snail Shell will approach this with Grisa? 🤔 What do you think seeing it in person?

Funnily I think of Miku for super long articulated hair which can balance. But the style is completely different. Grisa just has normal hair like Lustia I think. Veronica looks nice but I already got too much stuff (coming in) 😅

I really like the more boney white paint on it. To simply make her green or pink would have been too overused. Well not that it would look bad. I just wish the bug eyes on top of the head had more done in terms of paint and that the antennae were done with bendy wire.

Heyyy! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I totally agree with you. If they make an accessory pack for some wings, I’ll get it. But this is also a good idea for a custom. There are a few Mystic Legion figures with wings, figma Pixie’s wings could also work!

@@studioaureal.. it's okay.. Back to topic.. Yiya studio figure I don't know about scale 1/6 Because. I'm mostly a random man who sees this figure and buys it. Arutesia normal Yiya studio I don't know about pose or movement. and they have Ahegao head scale. Same things as the Zaku version.. like the tomboy version Arutesia normal version.. I don't know the minus and plus.. But the difference between them just accessories and their clothes are different.. Arutesia normal like form anime Gundam, while Arutesia Zaku version... A Zaku girl?.. I just looked and they are cute and good besides like rem and ram form re:zero. I know you are confused read my comment.. I hope it can help you.
