Where's part #1? I just ordered a set of reeds for my 2.5L merc from Chris and he told me to watch ur video

Do you think the nose cone is the problem? JW. I wanted to put one on my tohatsu M50D, just worried about over heating. Thanks in advance!

I put a set of boyson power reeds on an old Johnson 115. Picked up 400rpm's on the top end, same prop.

This is an older video but I like you're work. I'm in the middle of doing a 95 bullet that's pretty rotted. I'm trying to do what you are. No wood, no expanding foam. Not cutting all the balsa out, but most. Just a fast fishing boat. Anyway, keep up the good work.

I have a 91 black max 175 and I replaced the stator and trigger in April and it run perfectly for maybe 5 trips then now it's backfiring and overheating... I have tried for months to figure it out but its got good reeds clean carbs rebuilt fuel pump New coil packs rectifiers I'm really wanting to get it fixed but have run out of things to try other than the poppet valve and ignition switches and I just want it fixed

So its not a problem putting 20 volts dc to the pump and injectors? Don't they normally run on 12vdc?
@SmalltownBassin4 ай бұрын
Depends on the rpm/output of the voltage regulator. Could be as high as 16vdc. Fuel pressure regulation happens on its own regardless of pump rpm. Injector solenoids don't give a F. For bench testing, it's fine.

I ask because I this is perfect. I'm about to do exactly what you did. Go from carbs back to efi on my 2.5. It was a 200 ff block worked to 225 promax specs. All I could find was a 200 promax ecu. Hope that's ok? Anyway, perfect video for me. Your vids are awesome. Super helpful. Thanks
@SmalltownBassin4 ай бұрын
As long as it doesn't have a 7 petal front, the 200pm ecu should be fine but a little sluggish out of the hole if you opened the dumps in the block and adapter to 225pm spec. If it's a 7 petal, that 200 ecu may burn it up.
@enronshu19744 ай бұрын
I have a 2.5 thats been worked/ported to 225 promax specs but has wmh2 carbs on it now. Do you think i can tune those to get the most out or do you suggest a different set of carbs, or convert to efi? Love the videos btw.
@SmalltownBassin4 ай бұрын
Honestly, the WMH bodies have 3 separate, tunable circuits. If you have the patience and know what you're doing, you'll see the most power made with those. I've tried a few sets of WMH 3s from a 245hp that I always lose patience with and slap the WHs back on 😆
@enronshu19744 ай бұрын
@SmalltownBassin I appreciate it. I'm still learning and patience isn't my strongest virtue. I've been spending time reading on scream n fly about the carbs to get the best understanding I can before I start tinkering and blow it up from leaning out. Saw a used promax 225 ecu for sale and have everything else. Maybe I'll give that a shot... I need a faster hull too. My procraft 200 super pro isn't exactly an Allison or bullet.

@fishydubsfishing65165 ай бұрын
I would've boiled the block in a de scaling solution you got all that scale in the water jacket area around the cylinder bores all that's gonna do is overheat the cylinder walls again
@SmalltownBassin5 ай бұрын
You also said you want mandatory phase out of 2 stroke tech. Seems like you're just talking out the side of your neck 😂 Go sit down somewhere and enjoy KZbin while leaving the keyboard alone. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for the video! I just received my reeds and stuffer kit from CCM. I noticed on the first block that there is a slight gap between the block and some of the reeds, showing light through. It seems to be better if I flip the reeds over, but still a gap on a few reeds, about 10 thousandths. Is this acceptable? There were no gaps with the stainless steel reeds. Thanks for your help!
@SmalltownBassin5 ай бұрын
That's pretty normal to see. If you notice the motor sneezing while trying to start or idle, the reeds aren't fully closing and need to be swapped out. Most times you can match the reed set to the best block. Flip them over and swap them around until you match them up as best you can.
@ВладимирВиталин-ш7э5 ай бұрын
Just for an info - in any case with a softer reeds you will have good idle and middle, with a stiffer reeds you will have better middle and +500-600 RPM on top. You will not have any power improvement with any reeds, just a change of engine "feeling" how it behave on a certaine RPM. This is a rule for 2-strokets... All the best from Russia.

I'm enjoying your videos though I've only seen 5. Love what you have going on with the Frankenbeast. You're doing what I'm researching to begin doing. My dad raised me up with the Tower of Power. It's 40 yrs old and still runs like a Swiss watch. I'm ashamed I've only recently turned my eye from the L6's to realize Kiekhaufer's design wasn't the only outstanding Merc. production. I'm currently loving everything I've seen on the 2.5L Mercs. Diggin the Frankenbeast ! I'd be hollerin WOO HOO TOO!!! LMBO. Now, watching this video, I can assist with the frp aspect of your hull refurb. 25 yrs Engineering Specialist. I'm curious as to how you laminated the transom panels. It appears you are using possibly polyester putty (1:02.0 - 1:34.0). I hope you did not. Feel free to message me if you'd like. You can teach me a bit about the important part, the 2.5L

At 13:13 we see that engine suddenly stops moving when you were trying to start the engine. This fact alone should be enough reason to suspect of an out of time spark which causes a strong instant brake.
@josemariatrueba45686 ай бұрын
Very interesting what you said during one minute between 14:45 and 15:45. You get a spark at the right time but also another spark 90 degrees before the right time, since the flywheel is rotating clockwise. The extra spark is probably what causes the out ofvtime pop that you hear, what causes the overheating cylinder when gasoline tlwas forced to be burnt inside the cylinder instead of at the exhaust manifold, and what caused the engine to stop rotating suddenly sometimes when you attempted to start the engine also. Everything makes sense, if we understand that gasoline must be burnt at the exhaust manifold but never insude a cylinder! The explanation of how an engine works is false. Piston is not being pushed down from the gases after each ignition. Those gases are being formed after the gasoline is burnt at the exhaust manifold. What causes the piston to be pushed at the right time is something else, an instant pop that does not increase the temperature, not the gases from burnt gasoline that do increase the temperatureof the exhaust manifold outside the cylinder.

Great videos. The plastic shavings you found during tear down lead you to the plastic oil gear on the crank as root cause for the gunk build up and low compression. Does Merc offer a replacement part for the oil gear that is not plastic? Replacing that gear would be a bit tricky since the crank assembly would have to be torn down, certainly involved. Is there is a fix to the root cause? If not it seems that you really have to stay on top of your engine and catch these types of failures before it becomes a real problem.

Just did both reeds and stuffer kit on an oil injected 2004 Yamaha V4 @ 490hrs which was turning 6,000 nicely. The reed replacement was mainly preventative maintenance and for piece of mind (the OEM reeds were in perfect condition when removed). With the stuffers I looking for better 2000-4000 performance. After install I lost about 5% off the top end. Idle doesnt seem any better and is actually about 75rpm lower which may just need a turn of the screw. I've only run it about 3 hours in poor sea conditions which made it difficult to report the mid range performance. Always started well and still does. Will update as the hours accumulate. 🚤
@SmalltownBassin7 ай бұрын
Reduced crankcase volume "stuffing" results in a richer mixture in that space. This is how it gives more torque but also sacrifices top end. It's not recommended if the low end torque isn't needed. If you have idle air adjustment points on your carbs, adding more air will help your idle and off idle response.
