if you're new to anxiety attacks solid advice is, if you feel it coming on, check your senses. look at your hand, feel what your hand is touching, observe color, and texture, feel temperature etc. just try and engage with the place you are and your immediate surroundings and try to gradually slow your breathing. it's not magic but it will slightly draw you out of your head, which is the goal.

I don't see that most people are opposed to alternate energy methods, I'm certainly not. This issue is government subsidizing it. Government should allow the FREE market to determine when the public is ready for alternative energy. And yes, government should not be subsidizing fossil fuels either.

Find it funny this argument of 'you know how much energy it takes to create these things?'.(when it comes to renewables). You cannot make anything out of nothing on this earth. Energy will be always used in any manufacturing process but its a question of how much. Even if Renewables only produced a small percentage of our power requirements (which they don't) its still better than the alternative. They arent flawless either and are not a magic wand solution but nobody said they were, except the people who are usually against them and who coincidentally have connections to other competing industries.

Gee, a Texas-born writer defending the oil industry - what a shock. What's really shocking is who jumped on board with this - disappointed and I'm sure he sold them on some kind of dramatic corner down the road. There is no turn happening and as with most of Sheridan's work, it's Americana in stasis - everything is fine and don't need any stupid city-folk telling us anything. Put this story in Louisiana or Washington State where some real cultural life or death stuff is happening - Texas is already "ALL-OIL, ALL THE TIME" so no cultural shifts or awakening will happen here. Sheridan is satiating his audience by saying we all have dirty hands in this - glossing over ALL the legitimate crimes the oil-industry is always committing. All of Sheridan's work is dead-end morality bro-soap-operas with blathering, weary, "seen everything - heard it al" personality types that override any other perspectives. It's a Dallas reboot with old men telling people off, young women being ogled and commented on but not having any involvement in the main plot direction - just side-story - which is what is at the core of every Sheridan-joint: "This is man's work - stand over there and look pretty in your outfit." Gets huge audience shares because it doesn't challenge - just the gives anti-ev crowd some short sighted talking points rather than real info.

Mark may become a bootlicker, but it's implied early on that, not unlike Helly, it took a long while to break him, too. The show makes it clear how difficult it is to break protocol, but even when given specific orders his character frequently betrays signs of kindness, like diverging from the script when waking up Helly, taking the fall for her when she first tries to escape, and then advocating on her behalf after she (SPOILER ALERT) attempts suicide in the elevator. It kind of represents one of the core themes of the show: no matter how much the powers that be may attempt to rob their workers of their humanity, innevitably, their real personalities will break through and see through the bullshit that is corporate manipulation.

Conservatives literally cannot resist the opportunity to recite their talking points verbatim. It's why a lot of their art is middling at best. Culturally they just don't appreciate nuance or subtlety. Delivered like a sermon, intentionally. A lot of the "well renewables also have pollution" is just an endless cycle of "well it isn't perfect so we might as well not even try."

Even though I agree that the “mysterious and important” work being done in MDR is mostly a storytelling tool to make everything feel more uneasily alien and pointless, it definitely makes me think of the inane AI training work that was recently revealed to be part of the labor exploitation occurring in Kenya, with people drawing boxes around objects in pictures and identifying things in images. I would appreciate a reveal about what the work means feeling just as inscrutable and pointless.like they were part of some bizarre experiment that ended up being an inconclusive and arrogant extension of billionaire delusion. Entire divisions of human labor wasted on the excited impulse of a childish/cultish obsession.
