I think this is definitely a reset for the influential ppl in LA/CA. To see what some of these politicians and insurance companies are really up to. Second, according to some documentaries that i have seen, and some other information i am aware of, they have been fighting forest fires in California (not to mention elsewhere in the world) the wrong way for decades ! It turns out, that Californian forests are supposed to be so called open forests. However, since man came around and started to inhabit these area's more and more, every time there was a fire, people fought those fires, but over time, that lead to these forests growing ever denser over time, and the more dense the forests, the more the fuel load, and thus, the bigger, and more intense, the fires. And that is exactly what we are seeing, if you look at the data from the last three decades or so. there has been a slight increase in overall forest fires in the U.S., from an average of about 14 million acres a year, up to about twenty million acres a year. What a lot of people don,t know, is that before the increasing habitation of California, these forests burned practically on an annual basis, keeping those forests, open forests as i mentioned earlier in this comment. According to a study done by the U.S. Forestry Service in the late nineteen-nineties to early two-thousands, it turned out that between the 1300's and 1800's (the pre-industrial era), 145 million acres of land burned in the U.S. on an annual basis ! That was, on average, pretty much between seven to ten times as much land burning as it does today ! It turns out, that human development of the land (agriculture and urbanization) is considered to be responsible for about a fifty percent decrease in the total amount of forest fires, the other fifty percent of this decrease, happened by land management (like land fragmentation), and fire suppression. However, according to that same study, it turned out that many species both in flora, and in fauna, are actually dependent on these fires for their propagation ! So, on the one hand, human activity had a positive impact with regards to the amount of fires in the U.S., decreasing them by a factor of up to ten !, but on the other hand, by doing so, they had a negative impact on the development, and propagation of certain species in both flora, and fauna.
