Pilot probably forgot because his final approach was very fast thus he used the entire runway because the gear was lowered so late.

@@manugfan I mean I have been on Hawaiian many time yet I have never encountered something like this so idk probably just a little mistake Im not from Austin so I don’t know the approach but it looked to be he lowered the gear around 1000 feet above the ground maybe even less. Which definitely very low.

Gear was definitely lowered late. I have to agree it was around 1000 feet when they lowered it. The FO was flying. After it was lowered, then it’s like whoa there’s the airport. But we made it

Very nice - you guys were excited! You have to get on the A35K, maybe with JL, VR, BA, or QR? Even more powerful takeoff and much smoother landings with the larger MLG trucks.

I plane-spot from time to time, and I never got why it had the name “The Silent Giant.” When they fly right over you, they are definitely loud, until 6 months ago. I was at a cars and coffee under the approach pattern for DTW. I heard most of the planes that day, maybe missing a CRJ every now and then. I just so happened to look up at one point when the A350 was right above us coming in from Shanghai I believe. For only 3,500ft., it was incredibly quiet. I’m a sucker for classic jets. The 727s at PTK to the north fly the approach pattern over my house and are pretty loud (not enough to wake you up). For around the same altitude of 3,500ft., definitely a big difference. As much as I love old jets, it is crazy how a giant aircraft with such massive engines such as the A350 can be so quiet once it gets a little ways away from you. Truly a marvel of engineering. Great video of your experience!

Love the 757! Great vid of the quick flight from one garbage city to another. Have flown out of JAX many, many times. ATL has a decent airport, but god I wouldn't wanna live there.

I also happened to catch the last time a UPS A300 takes off from Runway 36R as we turned off the runway since 18R/36L opened back up the next day
