Two stanzas should be enough for people to learn the tune, I hope. That's what these recordings are for: to teach you the tunes so you can sing them. So, let's get singing! :-)

I have to say, hearing the "correct" choir pronunciation did catch me off guard 😅 I ran to your description to see if you said anything about it, and was pleasantly surprised 😁
@michaelowens5394Күн бұрын
Well, I should confess.... I did that to make fun of my choir directors, who all ask for ridiculous pronunciations like, "Don't say "birth", say "buth"; don't say "it", say "eet" Have you ever sung in a choir? It's silly. I usually just ignore them, but that evening I had just come home from choir practice irritated and I thought, "I'll show her! You asked for it!" It was really petty, and I regret it. I should redo it.

@@michaelowens5394 😂 I have sung in choir, and those have annoyed me as well, probably why I found this so amusing!

Can you upload the prose version of Psalm 24, please? :)
@michaelowens539418 күн бұрын
Very sorry, I don't have the ability to record David Erb's Psalm settings because they require a piano. I refer folks to Erb's own recordings, also free on KZbin. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXLOkoyXgMtmZ80si=ieRH7UgnBp9dougm Someday perhaps I'll make SATB arrangements of his music in the Treasury. And then I'll record those because no one else will. My main reason for recording songs is to show you what they sound like. If someone else has already done it better than I could, I have no reason to.
@AdamEve-n2u17 күн бұрын
@@michaelowens5394 Well, you have done other recordings of his music, and as I think they are of better quality than his, I prefer to listen to your versions, and you do have a reason record your own version! But what's SATB?
@michaelowens539417 күн бұрын
Thanks! I sure appreciate the compliments. :-) SATB means Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass. It's shorthand for "four-part harmony". I have recorded all of David Erb's music which I have arranged for four-part harmony. I will eventually arrange and record all the ones in the Treasury. But for now the only Treasury Erb's I've recorded are the ones included in SATB (Psalms 122, 125, 131, 133 & Fear of the Lord). The rest (24, 29, 82, 93, 117, 121, 127, 134, 149, Beatitudes, Yet I Will Rejoice), I'll do eventually. Meanwhile, I hope you listen to his recordings enough so that you can sing them yourself. That, after all, is the goal of my recordings and of his.

Would it be possible for you to record or upload a version of "O little flock fear not the foe" LSB 666, or "Christ the Life of all the living" LSB 420? Thanks.
@michaelowens539418 күн бұрын
Possible, yes. Is there anything about my recordings which would make them superior to the many great recordings of LSB 420 and 666 already free on KZbin? If so, I'll do them. If not, I need to allocate my time wisely between the songs I'd like to record. Thousands of songs have NO recordings available.

I hope this recording will help people learn the tune. Once you know it, you're welcome to sing it at any tempo you like. One of the glories of the magnificent tunes in the Genevan Psalter, is that they are effective at many different tempi. Over the centuries they have been enjoyed fast, slow, very fast and very slow. Quicker tempi reveal their rhythmic vitality, slower tempi reveal their ethereal grandeur. Slow tempo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6uTlIOuapKfnNksi=Vlq3aTnJEB49WxkW Very slow tempo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXrKmWCqabWtodksi=WAa9GH519TNLNuIQ&t=43

Two reasons. I have limited resources, so I just make samples, usually up to 4 stanzas, to help you learn the tune. If I could earn money with my recordings, I might record all the stanzas of everything. But also, whenever I have recorded all the stanzas of something, I find myself getting tired of hearing myself sing it after 4 stanzas. If I'm tired of it, I imagine other people will be too. But of course, you can include vv.12 & 13 if you sing it! :-) That's what these recordings are for: to teach you the tunes so you can sing them. So, let's get singing!

'Cymer' is also a place name of a village in South Wales..to which I think this tune has been named after. Of course you are right that in a different context..'Cymer' also means 'Take'. Warmly yours G.Evans

Stay tuned! I've found a hidden cataract of Welsh hymn tunes I want to post. Scarcely a dozen are widely known, but searching through many old Welsh hymnals has turned up nearly 500 unique hymn tunes from Wales, 1800-1920. Someday soon I hope to upload them all at WelshHymnTunes.com. But it's not ready yet. Meanwhile I've included 51 Welsh tunes in the Treasury hymnal.

Thank you! The hymn tune genre is a genre of miniatures. A hymn tune needs to make its whole impact in under a minute, usually under 30 seconds, and stand up to an unusual degree of repetition. It's also one of the few types of music made specifically for non-musicians.
