I really like your videos. I tried this one step drill for a few frames and gave up because it didn't seem to relate to my slide length and height of my back swing. I injured my elbow after a long layoff from bowling by forcing my swing forward from the top. I guess I need to let gravity work it's magic and try again. Another thing that I noticed is you have both your feet together during the push away. It would seem to me that this would force the swing to go behind the back because there is no clearance for the ball. I think almost all top bowlers push away step crosses in line with the first step to clear a path for the ball(for a five step bowler). There might be a balance issue if the slide step was moved back behind the right foot. I don't know. It might be something to try.

Great Video. Any suggestions on NOT 'griping' the ball with your thumb? I try to press the pads of my thumb against the ball ... while inserted. But.... I find it difficult. Than on the back swing I find myself GRIPPING the ball with my thumb so not to drop it. HELP?
@ThomasLarsenBowling

@@SanDiegoTeslaGuy Sounds like something isn't fitting correctly. First I would have your fit checked. If the span and pitches seem okay your thumb hole is probably too big or beveled too much. Try adding tape and doing some foul line drills if you feel afraid of your ball hanging up on your hand. But Sounds like you just simply need the ball to sit a little more solid on your hand

@ThomasLarsenBowling
@ThomasLarsenBowling 2 күн бұрын
@@surfboardshack3327 Interesting question. I guess the opposite would be either dropping the ball off the hand (like if you throw it dead straight) or what I would call forcing in the ball - pulling the ball in the downswing and then pulling upwards at the release like starting a lawn mower. Hitting the ball with the fingers are okay, but it needs to clear the thumb and be an outwards motion, not an upwards.

@steveboguslawski114
@steveboguslawski114 9 күн бұрын
@@daviddeiss7907 The issue with difficult topography is inconsistency across the lane. Tilt is one thing, and if the tilt is consistent then the ball reaction will be consistent and playable at a mostly normal difficulty level. The amount and direction of slope will either aid or hinder a hook, but it would be consistent. However, it is common for there to be some ripple, with high zones and low zones which can steer the ball one direction and then the opposite direction depending on the changing slope. A small move or miss can produce an unexpected result because each path down the lane catches the slopes differently. And a lane doesn't have to be out of spec to produce these effects. Topography, if the highs and lows are in the "right" places, can help steer the ball to the pocket. But if in the "wrong" places will deflect balls away from the pocket. It is important to recognize that topography is completely separate from friction. What matters is ball speed and weight. A fast heavy ball will be affected less than a slow light ball.
