You could have gotten the "accessory kit" for almost the same price as the back plate alone. It includes the backplate, new pickup covers, knobs, and switch tips. All for about the same price as the backplate alone for some reason.

I was not aware that Fender sold a whole kit of those parts! I've only ever seen them individually. Thanks for the heads up and next time I'm fixing up a Fender I will definitely search for that kit.

Would have been interesting to hear what you paid for it from the pawn shop, just so we could see if you made out okay at the end.
@kinsleycustomguitarsАй бұрын
Thanks for chiming in, and sorry for the delay in my reply. I'm not sure why I didn't add that in. The pawn shop had it on the wall at $360. I got them down to $250 including tax. With the Fender parts I bought for it and strings, I'm in $300. Not terrible for a fixer upper MIM thats only two years old I think.
@CKS64Ай бұрын
A lot of this is poor quality control at Fender Mexico. Almost every Mexican Fender Ive picked up at pawn shops are not perfect. I believe if you tear apart a brand new one you would see imperfections that would make you think that at the most they should sell for about the same as a Squire.
@kinsleycustomguitarsАй бұрын
It's sad to see that their quality has gone this far. Looking at the neck there are definitely spots that make me think it should say Squire on the headstock instead of Fender. I also have a 2013 Blacktop HH MIM Strat and it is a fantastic guitar. Extremely well built and has become my main workhorse guitar as of late. It just does everything I want and more. I'm hoping I can get this one to be its equal, just with single coils instead of humbuckers.
@CKS64Ай бұрын
As someone who purchases a lot of pawn shop guitars this is common condition. Most guitar's are pawned because something's wrong not because they needed money. As a pawn shop won't give you any substantial amount for any guitar.
@kinsleycustomguitarsАй бұрын
Unfortunately it is common to see them like this. I've rescued many guitars from pawnshops that still had a lot of life left in them and gotten them back into good working condition. I have only ever picked up one that was nearly perfect. I just had to replace a couple knobs and it was good to go. That was an Ibanez Jet King 30. Love that guitar.

I can see that for the separation in the photo, but the distortion over the pickups definitely was not from a pick in the pick guard. I hadn’t thought about the pick causing that warp though, so thank you for the thought! I appreciate you chiming in

Will it work on boss ve2? Great instructions by the way
@kinsleycustomguitars5 ай бұрын
I am not sure. Unfortunately Boss doesn’t have great documentation of what type of circuit all of their foot switches use for expression pedals. The documentation I’ve seen has only given examples with the Boss foot switches and say to set it to either A or B type switching. The only way to know for sure is to get a foot switch and test it. Check the foot switch with a multimeter so you know if it is normally closed or normally open. Once you know this, plug it into your pedal and try using it. If it doesn’t work, it’s most likely the opposite circuit of what you have.

huh, I got one of these sitting there collecting dust, bought it but didn't really use it. There's no brand on it but commonly known as "BM800" as well. I checked the board, it's smaller than your black mic but similar electronics, just more densely designed. i.postimg.cc/yxQCbWY9/IMG-20240502-210809.jpg ... think I got it + the power supply unit for $20~$25 total. the upgrade board is so much more substantially made, hard to say which is "better" in the end, yeah... Maybe the upgrade feels a bit more "professional", easier to listen to.
@kinsleycustomguitars9 ай бұрын
Thank you for your thoughts! It definitely does have a much more professional sound after the upgrade, and more of a flat EQ response compared to the black mic I think. It’s really in the ear of the beholder and it depends on what speakers you listen to it through. After having published it and playing around with it more I still don’t know which one of the two I prefer the sound of, they’re both unique in their own rights.

Would this work with the boss katana go headphone amp that just came out? I’m looking for a cheap way to change presets by foot
@kinsleycustomguitars9 ай бұрын
I unfortunately am not sure. If you have some form of external tap switch for a delay pedal, you can test if this mod will work for you or not. All you have to do is plug it into the TRS plug for expression pedals and see what happens. If nothing happens or it gets stuck scrolling like the SY200 in the video, you probably need the mod. If it changes normally, you don’t need the mod. I have no experience with the Katana line of amps, as I’ve gone all in on tubes and pedals. I’ve seen them but never played one.

Hello there! I have a 00' hodad with bad pots, I need to replace them but I don't have the wiring harness and it's very hard to find infos about them, so, you have the information or schematic of these guitar? There's any specific stuff inside of the electric or I can replace all the wiring with a ''standard'' LP/SG wiring diagram? (with the push pull and etc) Any info will be apreciated!
@kinsleycustomguitars Жыл бұрын
I unfortunately do not have a wiring diagram of the guitar. The only specific information I know about is that all of the pots are 500k and two are push pull. The wiring looked fairly standard from what I remember. If you’re going to go through all the trouble of removing and rewiring everything you can make any standard schematic work. My advice if you want to retain the factory wiring is replace one pot at a time. Desolder all connections, pull the pot, install the new one, and solder the wires back on the same way they came off. Taking photos also helps with this. The project won’t be too difficult as long as you can get the control plate out of the cavity. It is extremely difficult to get in and out. Another thing to note is that there are raised notches on the control plate to center the factory pots. When I replaced mine I had to flatten the plate with a pair of pliers to get the replacement pot to fit properly. If I had taken the time to source the proper pots I wouldn’t have had to deal with that but it’s not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor!

Thanks for posting this. Are these the g5400 blacktop filtertrons (in white of course)? Or are these the newer blacktop broadtrons?
@kinsleycustomguitars Жыл бұрын
To be completely honest, I have no idea. The listing on Reverb only stated that they were Gretsch Filtertrons. Did not give a model number or what guitar they came out of. The sizing is pretty close to a real Filtertron so I’m reasonably sure they are not Broadtrons. A friend of mine plays a Gretsch semi hollow with the Broadtrons and these are not as big as they are. The width (width is what I’m calling the left to right measurement when the pickup is horizontal) is similar, but the length and height are very different. I did check the pickups for serial numbers and there were none, so I can’t even check with Gretsch to see what exactly they are. Sorry I couldn’t be more help here. Basically all I know can be summed up into two statements: They were made by Gretsch and they sound awesome!

How about the gt10 pedal, doeswill it work with the normally closed momentary switches?
@kinsleycustomguitars Жыл бұрын
I am not sure, unfortunately. Boss only states in their instructions for the GT-10 that it is expecting a momentary signal, but does not state if it is in a normally closed or open circuit. It does give instructions on which way to set the polarity of the FS-6 foot switch, which I believe is to set the switch for normally closed or open operation. However, it is not labeled in any meaningful way other than “polarity” so your guess is as good as mine here. If you already have a normally open control switch, try it in the control jack of your GT-10. If it doesn’t work properly, you will need to do the mod. If it works, you will not need to do the mod.
