I’m surprised at how much people need convincing that inflatable kayaks are durable & safe. If you buy a quality unit (not the cheap plastic inflatables for under maybe $500 you may get a product that’s not so durable. If you get the ones made from the same materials as the Zodiac style inflatables, you don’t have to worry. They can’t be drug on the ground quite so much generally, but I don’t drag my aluminum or fibreglass boats on the ground, why would I do that with my inflatables?? Just get even a cheap $50 cart!! I didn’t drag any of my hard plastic kayaks either!! They wear out as well eventually 😊

Hi, thanks for the great video! I have one question - Since a bent shaft positions your hands farther forward compared to a straight shaft, does a bent shaft cancel out the effect of the forward offset blade on the Galasport Manic?
@AQOutdoors15 күн бұрын
That is a really good question and one that I have surprisingly never thought of. I held the paddle in my hands here in the office and the forward offset is still very noticeable with the bent shaft. The way the shaft is made, your hands are still set recessed back from the offset blade. That is the practical, dry land answer. The annecdotal from a season of use answer is the offset makes a huge difference. The Manic is the most powerful paddle I have paddled with in over 25 years of whitewater. I love the thing!

Is the motion 3 worth $250 more than the Motion XT if I have a 2020 Outback?
@AQOutdoors19 күн бұрын
Thanks for the question. It really depends a bit on a few things. The Motion 3 is a more aerodynamic design so is a bit quieter and will be a shade better on fuel efficiency. The main consideration is if you are looking at the XXL size box you will likely have no problem with the motion 3 impacting the rear hatch opening. If you are looking at the smaller sizes that shouldn't be an issue with any of the motion XT models. In the motion 3 you also have the low profile options which the motion XT doesn't have. In a nutshell, if you are looking for an XL or smaller and aren't too fussed by the look of the box the motion XT will most certainly do the trick. The 3 has some nice to haves for sure but nothing that is a requirement for your vehicle.

I’ve paddled a Nomad for over 10 years, and though it’s saved my butt many times, plowing through holes and bouncing off rocks, anyone who’s paddled a Nomad knows you have to be paying attention 100% of the time, always looking ahead and contemplating your next move to get where you want to be in time. My opinion anyway, as an advanced intermediate paddler who’s on the older side of young and old. Anyway, got in my buddy’s Code at the runout of a local creek this summer. All it took was a couple of ferries, eddy turns and surfs to sell me on the boat. What did you guys think of that spring loaded pin that goes into the receiver? I thought it was too flimsy so I'm returning mine after 2 days of ownership. Not sure if it was broken on mine or if it was supposed to be that loose. Didn't feel comfortable that the only thing holding my rack to the car (besides the pressure of the anti-wobble) was a small piece of metal that can bounce right out. Would have been easy for them to just go old school with a hitch pin and clip.
@AQOutdoorsАй бұрын
Hey that seems odd that it would be loose or wobble at all. The AutoAttach system Thule uses has been out for a long time now and we have have definitely put it through its paces on the T2 Pro XTR on many logging roads. I can't think of any warranty issues that have ever come through our shops with those either so maybe you had one that was not put together quite right. One thing we missed in the review and took us a while to figure out is how the new style crank arm works to snug it up. It works like a ratchet if you pull the handle outward which makes it much easier to get a snug fit. We also find giving the rack a shake while you turn the crank arm will also help eliminate any wobble. The problem with the old school hitch pin and clip is that its nearly impossible get get the wobble out of the connection without using a threaded pin or anti wobble adapter. Both would require tools. Hope that helps!

I have had my Motion XT XXL Titan for over 5 years now. The lidlifter arms broke one after 4.5 and the other 5 years but were cheap (€17 each) to replace and now have two spare ones. The roofbox is exposed to all weather conditions first in cloudy Scotland (just over 3 years) now Slovenia in particular to colder and hotter temperatures. Overall, it's served it's purpose and works really well but it does get noisy and increases fuel quite a bit hence my questions to those who have upgraded: 1. Does the new Motion 3 makes a significant improvement to drag (noise levels) and fuel efficiency or is it just a better looking box with fixed back clearance for some vehicles (wasn't a problem at all on my Volvo XC60 2008 [Volvo bars] nor now Seat Leon 1.6 2019 Estate/Kombi [Thule wing bars] or Skoda Kodiaq 2.0 2019 [Skoda OEM bars]) and pure marketing and loosing 10L in capacity (XXL - XT 610L vs 3 600L)?; also, 2. How does the build quality compare to XT in terms of plastics used e.g. did they cut corners anywhere making thinner plastics or improvements such as new lidlifters that don't break after 4+ years? I wish they made these matt and not glossy. Also, users reported that covers to these boxes fall apart in less than a year - are have they improved them? Many thanks in advance, David
@AQOutdoorsАй бұрын
Hi David. Thanks for the view and the question. Quite the move from Scotland to Slovenia! In short, the fuel economy difference although likely better will be marginal at best. These boxes, although designed with being aerodynamic in mind, all impact fuel efficiency more or less the same. The build quality at first shake is good, equal to or better than your current one. That being said, they are new so we haven't been able to see if they stand the test of time. I would say anecdotally that you could certainly upgrade confidently in the build quality regard. Truth be told, if your current box is still working well after the minor lid lifter repairs I would stick with it. The main reason to upgrade would be purely aesthetic in my opinion. Hope that helps a bit Simon
@anylookupАй бұрын
@@AQOutdoors I got the Motion 3 XXL and am testing them both (Skoda Kodiaq + Seat Leon Estate/Kombi both 2019). One thing that the dealer told me was to move both bars and boxes as far as possible to the front. This was an incorrect advise as I found out later and even ChatGPT suggested that the most optimal position is centred and then to the rear (for weight distribution that improves car handling and wind/water reflection - less drag). The front of the roof box also should be behind the top edge of a windscreen/windshield (WS). I had my XT hanging over the windshield a bit before and it was quite loud in high winds or at high speeds. Once, while driving in very heavy rain, a small amount of water got inside too. I think that it's because the box was way too much to the front and reflected from the WS air or water was hitting the box more. I have both boxes as far as possible to the rear (but not handing over the back) and it's much better now. Also, in terms of build = the quality appears to be similar if not the same. Some changes in the shapes such as the XT has a lower front profile whereas 3 appears to be same height along the whole box. The lid lifters seem also a bit less bulky - hope they didn't cut corners and they're last longer than XT's). The box is still a bit fiddly to open even though they claim it can be done with one hand. I like the lower bottom sides for easier loading but we'll see if things keep falling out because of it. There's now also some internal accessories available for 3 that only came with the most expensive model before.

Can you tell us what’s different between expensive hitch mounted bike and the cheap one? There are many options with big range of prices ….
@AQOutdoorsАй бұрын
Thanks for the view and question. The main difference is in the build quality and features. More expensive racks are built with additional functionality such as swing away or tilting to enable access to the trunk of the vehicle. The cradles are also built with more expensive bikes in mind so they way the bikes attach/ mount is less likely to cause damage to the bikes. The material weight and welding of the higher price racks also tends to be more durable That is obviously very general but I hope it gives you some context.

Thanks for the view and question. We introduce it in a very simple way right from the start. In an intro course we get people to think about using their feet and knees in a sweep stroke. Well explained, I'd also add the following: 1. Be prepared to actively adjust your steering blade angle, this is particularity relevant to bigger blade paddles (i.e be able to quickly de-power the stroke). 2. Always be ready for a quick forward stroke to push you back into the wave or react to a dynamic foam pile. 3. Look at how your separate your upper and lower body to create a more dynamic platform. 4. Each wave is different and you need to adjust to it's personality, so many people fall of waves because they are rigid. 5. While half slices are awesome (my Rewind is a surfing machine) you can apply these techniques to most modern fast creek boats and it's a great skill to master when you need to move around the river. 6. Paddle choice has a big influence and my 200 Shogun is no match for a more play focused shorter/smaller bladed paddle, you just need to understand the pros and cons of your set up and how to get the best from it.

Thanks for checking out the video. I have had a chance to paddle the Indra more than the ReactR though have enough time to comment on both. In full transparency I am a long time Dagger padler and love the outfiiting in their boats. At 5'9" and 165 - 170lbs the S/M Indra is an amazing teaching and river running boat, it is predictable, skips over things nicely and is (as mentioned in the video) a boat that loves to carev around the river on edge. The M/L for me feels a little big though would be my go to if I were going to paddle anything really hard in this model. In summary, it feels like a bit of a quiver killer boat in the sense that you can creek in it, surfs OK and is really zippy and fun on river runs. The ReactR is a bit more of a departure from other boats I have paddled. So far I am digging the new outfitting, I feel they knocked it out of the park. It is the first Pyranha boat I have enjoyed carrying! To me the medum does feel wide, I have added some seat paddling but feel I could do with another 2 shims to get it just right. It is an easy to control boat which never feels lie it gets away from you, the one thing I don't like is how quick it decelerates, it skips amazingly well, but then in an eddy it slows quite quickly where the Indra contiues to accelerate. The loose hull makes sweep boofs so easy, that does feel very cool and much easier than the Indra. It surfs equally well or a bit better than the Indra too. Two very different feeling boats, each with things some people will gracitate to and others will not. Hope that helps?

The Wilderness was the best paddling kayak of all and was the best for fishing class 1-2 streams as easily as lakes. It handles rough water well. The worst things that sadly haven't been improved are: 1. Lack of Rod Holders. 2. The pedal system is very weak and the little medal clips fail and the screws strip out easily. 3.The kayak pedals too easy and needs a little more pitch in the prop. It's like pedaling a 10-speed bicycle in first gear all the time. I could actually paddle the kayak faster than I could pedal it. 4. The helix motor drive is way overpriced! Lack of Cordura on the knees and hip/waist is a deal breaker as these areas get a lot of wear when getting in or out of kayaks/Packrafts (or even when just popping a knee out to stretch). Socks don't need to be waterproof Gortex and I've found the heal seam wears out quickly. Love my old version but this one seems like a backwards step.
