How to Choose and Size a Canoe Paddle

I feel like that length recommendation is wrong I have always used paddles shorter than that

Thanks for the annecdotal insight. We would love to hear how you size up paddles. We agree there is most certainly more than one way to approach this. Quite a personal preference thing.

@ You are sitting down in a canoe so it is all about torso length. You want to put the handle of the paddle on the canoe seat and where the shaft meets the blade should be around your forehead. This also works well because when sizing a paddle it is about the length of the shaft and not as much about the blade length.

I will say that in our area we don’t really use bent shaft paddles so I’m not really sure about sizing them
