I personally like the old style Tenkara line holders from wood , environmentally friendly no plastic waste and it looks more professionally .

That is a good point! And I’d love to see this implemented in wood.

great idea! I use the Tenkara Usa line holder, it's really fuckin sweet. I dig it because it catches the progress of the line as you wrap, so if you stop wrapping for a second, it won't unravel. Also nice because when you're done wrapping, it just holds it in place. It can fit 2 lines on 1 spool. Which i've heard some people use for spare tippet on ultralight days. There's also a small chamber built in, that holds a bunch of flies. For like $12, i'd say they're unbeatable line holders
@gokofly2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah- I've got one of those too. Holds a ton of stuff! I keep it in my pack loaded up as a 'spare' kit for those times (or three) when I forget something important. Thanks for watching'!

Quick correction to the vid: Around the 15:20 mark I indicated the wrong rod (zoom) length. Looks like I was going from the full length 9.3 ft(280cm) down to the mid 8ft (245cm) length, not 6.6ft(200cm).🙃

How did you like using the braid line
@gokofly2 жыл бұрын
I actually used it a bunch last (2022) season, and was trying to figure out how to do a video about it, because there’s a bit more to it. Probably can’t tell in this video, but I tie a series of knots across the entire length of it and that (gives it weight???) ends up making it cast really well. It’s not like any other line I’ve tried, and almost slows down right at the tail end of the cast… giving me a second of control/accuracy I can’t compare to any other type of line. 80# might be the key- not sure. Also, it’s not good at all with (heavier) nymphs I’ve found. The knots start relatively close at the (Lilian) end and gradually get spaced further apart as they get to the tippet (end). Weird- but it works! Hoping to do a video some day explaining it all. Thanks for watching and asking about it!

You keep doing what you are doing, and have fun at it, don't worry about all the technical stuff. Like your modified line spool rig. The simplicity of just two nymphs, dark or light, sounds great if that works for you.
@gokofly2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Even though I feel these mountain fish are less picky (more desperate), sometimes even swapping light/dark doesn’t cut it. But once I figure what general tone they’re going for, I’ll stick within that range for the session. I’ve been diving into bugs more this year- and how temps, weather, and time of day matter, which might inspire me to change things up next season. Take care!

Hey @LaneCountyBigfooters- Welcome! Thanks for watch'n, sub'n, and all the great comments! Hopefully that info proves useful for you as well. And yes, I'm very fortunate to have access to such a beautiful area- and I want to keep the fish in it happy ;). I started Tenkara near the end of 2017, or maybe it was '18, and can't get enough of it. I've definitely managed to take a simple thing and turn it into something much more complicated!!! If you've ever got a question or want to bounce an idea of me, feel free to reach out with a comment on this or any one of my other vids. I'm not a pro or anything, but this can be a lonely sport if you're trying to figure it out all by yourself. If I can't answer, someone else will probably chime in. Take care!

Nice can you discuss your line. Looks like an orange sighter tied to furled line?
@gokofly2 жыл бұрын
Hey- thanks for asking! Nothing attached to the line for a sighter. But it is two-toned. Starts out orange and then the last few feet toward the fly are black. I like it for nymphing because it kind of helps me gauge depth a little. Here’s the Amazon link: www.amazon.com/MAXIMUMCATCH-Maxcatch-Tenkara-Tapered-Fishing/dp/B075H6XP19/ref=mp_s_a_1_20?crid=YAHLYJYZT65X&keywords=furled%2Bline%2Baventik&pscroll=1&qid=1660252055&sprefix=furled%2Bline%2Baventik%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-20&wIndexMainSlot=22&th=1&psc=1 I like the solid yellow and orange to black lines- but not the striped/zebra versions… too hard for me to see especially if I have on a tiny or dark fly.
