My 3 year old GSD will protect 100% , he don't need to bite just a mean look and a growl with teeth showing is part of his protection ..

This is exactly what I'm going through with my 4 month old GS and I feel like there's no hope to correct. Thank you for the insight into hopefully redirecting this excitement peeing we can't control. I will update this comment if I can get progress. Thanks again

My biggest challenge is she pees for some reason. Her ears drop and her legs separate slightly. As soon as she does this she knows it's an oops and this can be right after coming inside from peeing, based on how she reacts to anyone. No particular person. You just have you watch her body language and ignore her if she looks like that before she pees?

You can try lots of things. One of our German Shepherds is only motivated with a ball! Use something your dog LOVESS...GSM

This video is so timely, thank you! My 7 month old GSD girl is so good at everything but when we get to the front of the house she gets excited and pulls to sniff everything! She's much better after she's been exercised, but we'll go back to training in the house, off and on leash, in the back yard, etc.

I have had some experience with that on German Shepherds. What I use along side the rewards for good behavior is Martingale Style for On-Leash Walking in combination with prong collar. If you go with that option, before you do use them watch American Standard Dog Training for how to use them. Most importantly is use the treat to reward the puppy for heeling and other good behavior.

My german sheppard is 9 months old and she got in-between me and a Rottweiler a few weeks ago she's a puppy but man she is fierce when it comes.to protecting me and she's had no training all i.do is love her I've seen people come.down my alley and they see my 9.month old and say oh shoot she only weighs 60 pounds and wow she's intimidating

My dog hates having her pawdicure done. My vet sedates her to do it. She's 4 years old and I have had her for a year. She struggles and screams and tries to bite. Someone in her past had to have hurt her for her to be that bad about it. Even with a muzzle on, she still struggles and cries. Safer and less stress for all just to use a short acting sedative and do it while she snoozes...

“Turn your back on them” works like a charm! Big Billy wants to play ball 24/7. 😂 If I turn around and ignore him, he sighs and goes to lie down!!! Dogs understand when you turn away. He’s a sweet boy. And yes, we play ball many times a day!!! 😊

Work his brain too!! Dogs can get just as tired from a 5-10 min training session as a session playing ball. Sits, downs, heeling, recalls, tricks, etc. Working the place command. Threshold work (can’t go in or out of doors/ kennel/ xpens ) without permission. I have had some balance issues so mine is trained to not go up or down stairs until I say so. You can also hide toys or people in the house and have the dog find them.

I once had the privilege of sharing my life and home with a wonderfully gentle GSD-Golden Retriever-Wolf hybrid. She was gentle and friendly until she needed to switch into her protective mode. Then she turned into an 85-pound bombshell.

I used Canine DNA . Used it for my American Staffoedshire Terrier. . Both DNA tests are good. I just got a GS puppy female that will be neutered soon. Agree Test are good to have

Yes, BUT they keep coming up with new tests for "new" diseases. We are going through that now with mini aussies. I think they have gone waaaaay tooo farrrr with all the testing.

I was in Rotties for many years. They have all sorts of tests for them that never really affect Rotts. But things like Subarortic Stenosis ( which the ARC has funded years of research on) still does not have a test.

Hey man we actually talked on the phone awile back probably about a year amd a half ago I had finally gotten a shepherd I was one in a rescue I'm needing advice on something so I brought her home she's a one year old female sable german shepherd she's not really eating much amd she isn't active I'm thinking maybe it's because she's getting used to a new environment after shelter life plus she just got spayed I'm seeing what you think on this i want to keep her happy and healthy she's so sweet

Such a great video. I followed GSM example of socialization exactly with Gretchen. When we go somewhere new we often see someone that Gretchen has met before and they act like family because they remember Gretchen and she remembers them. Love has turned Gretchen into an adult dog that people remember and is happy to see and greet her over and over. They just love seeing her. Thanks for your service GSM!
