Tellius, Jugdral and Valentia are in the same world as Archanea. Robin and Chrom knew who Ike was before they met Priam. Chrom read extensively in the history books about how evil Arvis was. And you already know Valentia is just west of Archanea. The worlds that are definitely different universes are Hoshido/Nohr's world and Elibe. Robin is confirmed a reincarnation of Corrin and also Mark and Grima, but it was made clear in fates Awakening's world is separate. Dragons cannot survive more than a few years in Elibe due to its planet's atmosphere so it physically cannot be on the same one as Archanea.

I'd say FE7 was difficult if not for the fact even in Hector Hard Mode at the last chapter the game is like "Here's the best unit in the game and he comes bearing gifts" and you just get all the best equipment in the game for free. Like the fact Nergal is a joke is really disappointing with all the build up. That and Pent/Halkeye. FE7 did not need DMPCs as playable characters.
