Hello! I've been watching a few of your videos with fascination. I'd love to hear what helped you during the biting stage in the end. My toller is now 12 weeks old and loves to chew / bite on everything (couch, grass, sometimes her chew toys). We tried: redirecting + positive reinforcement; ignoring; making "ouch" sound; all without major improvements. I know she's going through her teething stage but any advice would be very helpful

Hi, asking a fairly basic/silly question: why were you feeding sable treats through the video? Was it because the toys were exciting her? Asking as I am trying to understand if Tollers are obedient dogs - she’s clearly SUPER smart! Thanks!!

What happened in the moment where you captioned 'This is why you should always supervise'? Did her mouth get stuck in the toy, or was it because she was biting it/on the way to start destroying?

That was just a squeaky bark. I wish I had a video/audio recording of my first Toller’s scream. When he let loose I would check my ears to see if they were bleeding. If he did in the house all the glass wear would start to rattle like there was a small earthquake.

My boy passed away in September 2023 at nearly 13. It took me 3 months to be able to talk about him without breaking down. Now, finally, I smile when reminiscing about him. I decided the house was too quiet. On May 1 I pick up my Toller puppy! I cannot wait to have a little chew monster back in the house!

Hello, we are getting our first toller puppy in late June and are prepping 😊 I wanted to ask you about the cables in general - I saw some chargers in several of your videos. She could easily chew on them, but she doesn't seem interested in doing so. Was it easy to teach her to leave the cables alone? Or should we somehow doggy-proof them? And thank you for the videos, they are very helpful ❤

Hi there - so excited for you getting your first puppy! We got lucky with Sable - she never chewed on much of anything, only a shoe or two. We didn't really have to teach her to leave things alone. Each dog is different though! You'll know pretty quickly into having your puppy if they're going to be a chewer or not I think. If they are, I'd definitely remove the cables. It's so important to redirect chewing to things that you deem "okay" for them to chew on. Always make their toys way more interesting than furniture, cables, etc. I think we didn't have an issue with her being destructive because we really rewarded her when she chewed on good things and only redirected when she was chewing on something bad. Don't make it a game to them when they're chewing on something bad - i'd recommend staying calm, and offering to play with a chew-friendly toy. Good luck!

I purchased one of these sticks today. I have an Apenzeller and she is 8 mo old and a very aggressive chewer. We have gone thru shoes, chairs, kong toys, a nyla bone that she chewed off the end and swallowed. I have benebones but I am not a fan of the small plastic fuzz that she manages to scrape off of the bone. I have even shaved them down once they get too fuzzy. I am hoping that this chew toy will satisfy her as she is always drawn to sticks when she is out on a walk. She is working on it now as I type so we shall see how this goes.

@@Matt-ti8ol She is still a big chewer. Morning walks always result in a stick being brought into the house and turned into wood chips. She has stopped chewing legs of chairs...that I am thankful for. We have tried coffee tree sticks but that only reinforced her wood chewing so we stopped. The benebones are the more durable. Some toys get chewed and thrown away. No matter, we still love her.

Hi am thinking of getting a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Do you think I should and if so do you have any advice?
@ADuckTollerNamedSable
@ADuckTollerNamedSable 9 ай бұрын
I'd really suggest that you take a look through our videos (especially the puppy ones!) and do your research on the breed! Tollers are beautiful, but they require a lot of time every day. Plus, they should be with an active owner given their high energy levels. If that fits your life, then a Toller might be a good fit for you!

I'd say do your research to make sure that the breed is a good fit for your lifestyle! Sable requires training and exercise every day. It's important to speak to breeders to make sure they are well informed about the breed and show the proper care when selecting homes for their puppies.

She’s a beautiful dog, I have a training suggestion. Sable is learning to just do a random command without asks and she gets a treat. My recommendation would be to not give her a treat ONLY if she does what you tell her; she isn’t learning the right way, Sable should be learning that she only gets treats sometimes, and she doesn’t get treats if she wasn’t asked to do a trick. This is just a suggestion, it would be better i feel.

You are doing an amazing job with training Sable, the only thing is if you aren’t doing this already, don’t give her treats every time she does a trick. She will only do tricks when there is a treat in your hand if she learns this growing up, so make her think “oh, maybe I will get a treat this time” so she is still willing to do the trick, and not unwilling if there aren’t any treats.
@ADuckTollerNamedSable

You're spot on - this is something I've learned as she's gotten older. Sable was the first dog I have ever trained, so it was definitely a learning process. I appreciate the feedback! I wish I could rewind time and tell myself to cool it on the treats a bit...
