Is it necessary for a boot to get a boot tree instead of a shoe tree?
@GentlemansJourney2 күн бұрын
Nope, run what you can afford in them.
@Werewolf02163 күн бұрын
I want to use shoe trees, and I've tried some but returned them because it seems they would put a lot of tension/pressure on the back of the shoe/boot and I didn't want them to ruin the inside construction because of the significant pressing into the materials. I guess I need to try something else that might work better.

The only way to never experience the painful loss of a pet is to never meet them to begin with and, therefore, never have them in our lives. Considering those two different possible scenarios has gotten me through some very painful losses -- the very real pain I was feeling was because I was fortunate enough to have that pet in my life. Your dog was a very happy dog -- you were both fortunate to have one another for the time you did. So very sorry for your loss; I know how much it hurts.

All ticks are no joke. Check yourself carefully after being outdoors for awhile. I discovered I had one on my leg last night got it off crushed and saved it. Use DEET if you know ticks are common. Blacklegged ticks are the real deal culprit, they are black torso with a rear amber color festoon. Lone star ticks are very common where I live and not supposed to carry Lyme, but the similar Borrelia that cause TBRF. type symptoms. Wood ticks are apparently (the dog tick) do not carry Lymes Also it to note our dog died of what was thought of as Encephalitis in a 2 week span after walking it near a horse farm...it can be transferred to dogs and mis diagnosed as Lymes. Maybe it was Lymes but we will never know, it was a pretty bad decline that happened fast.

I also wonder about the sizing... you said you measure size 12, but you ordered a size 11-1/2. WHY? How do they fit? Large, Small, or just right? How do Georgia boots normally fit? I'd like to know before I order a pair. Thanks.
@GentlemansJourney7 күн бұрын
A lot of boot companies are silly and want you to size 1/2 size to 1 full size down. They just don't make them true to size to keep us on our toes.
@waldtricki11 күн бұрын
Great video. Not a lot of Chaco review videos out there and this is exactly the information I was looking for. I’m due for a new pair after 15 years. Honestly it’s crazy to me that these lasted so long. As I have gotten older my feet have gotten wider and I’m going to try a wide width on my next pair. I noticed in the comments above you said your new ones don’t feel quite as good and the video you say you went up from a 12 to a 13. I used to fit and sell shoes and I noticed watching you walk in them they looked just a tad big on you and so I was wondering if have tried a 12W in comparison to the 13? If not it might be worth comparing on the next pair you buy. Anyhow thanks for putting this vid together.
@GentlemansJourney11 күн бұрын
I like that recommendation, I’m going to look into that. Sounds like you had a good long run like I did. We will see with this new pair. Blessings brother and have a great summer. Hope you get to use them a lot

I never thought of those for hiking, but they're kind of perfect for almost all conditions. Biggest issue I've had hiking/working in typical leather PNW boots is heat and sweat. They're next on my list for sure! Thanks for the video.

Nice video! Can I ask what that wedge sole is like on wet surfaces? I'm thinking of the black Chelsea as a rainy day boot, but I'm worried about the traction. I don't need to walk through puddles, just surface moisture, but it'll be concrete, tile, pavement grass, etc. Likely very little mud, but I'm curious about that too if you have any experiences in that regard. Thanks!

I’ve found this outsole to be quite grippy in comparison to rubber in terms of wet rocks. Not as much grip hiking but slippery surfaces

My pair fell apart in less than six months of wear. The stitching blew out on the outer toe area near the flag, leaving a small but noticeable hole in the leather that will only further deteriorate with time. For boots that were supposed to be "built to last," that was pretty disappointing. And I'll never buy another pair. I contacted Thorogood about their 1-year warranty, and they charged me $15 to ship them back for an "inspection". Only for them to just return them back almost a month later in the same condition without any further explanation or correspondance. I've since switched to White's Perry Selects at a similar price, and they are way more comfortable and better built. The Thorogood's, in comparison, are like a cheap knock off you'd find at Walmart. There's a lot of hype around Thorogood boots, but there are much better options out there at the same price point.

Um, I've gotten to the point where I think they should stop cutting the corners if they're going to say they're the BEST BOOT ever and all that stuff. I feel like I finally got the sizing OK since I don't need anything too wide, but they still botched a bunch of my order and took forever for refunds and things. And they spend way too much time catering to urban use IMO, since I think that ship is largely sailing or whatever... [Urban customers who want MORE rugged stuff than just stuff that LOOKS rugged the more accurate trend?] BUT then I thought I would use the OT for a hiking boot and don't think it will have enough arch support for anything really serious now, but a bit more snake protection than the Captain ones that I was using for short excursions in the cooler months or whatever. I was a bit disappointed to return the "logger" version, but they are basically the same thing as the Hero with just two inches taller, so nothing too extreme or whatever.
@Highland_Paddy18 күн бұрын
The President ones are OK for daily urban use but I like the fit of the 1000 Mile a little better, but not sure if they will hold up long-term with just that outsole bit or whatever, but I didn't get any of these with lug outsoles since I already have a bunch of "army" boots I haven't even worn yet for warm weather hiking, too.
@Highland_Paddy18 күн бұрын
I think all their boots run small, so these probably too tight.
@Highland_Paddy18 күн бұрын
Yeah, they've been doing who-knows-what? w' the outsoles lately. Some guy told me he got the new ones with blah, blah, but I'm pretty sure he got older ones instead. I wonder if a bunch of their old soles failed or they just started having too many issues producing in-house.
