Seems like a lit of time spent tuning the car and replacing stuff and re ruining it with the manual as opposed to the C4. Seems very heavily biased towards the manual. Maybe just the way the video was edited?
@stickmansgarage9452 Жыл бұрын
The only changes besides the trans swap were the shock settings. Soft for C4, stiff for 5-speed, because that’s what allows each combo to run to it’s full capacity. We drive it hard in any combo in search of max ET. 💪 That’s what we are comparing here. And making observations on living with each in the real world. A lot of tuning & testing over a 25 year period helps us develop a log book & extract every ounce out of what little we’ve got 👍

hi awesome video, I have 86 Mustang with a aod transmission, it has a 351w built everything works really well but the transmission shift points, when I shift from first to 2nd it almost automatically shifts when I'm in 2nd to 3rd and feels like it kinda drags, do u know what I can do to get the have 2nd to 3rd rev out longer so I can use it's full potential?
@black88coupe Жыл бұрын
Have you tried putting the shifter back into first as soon as you make the 1-2 shift? After that when you are ready to make the 2-3 shift you just put it into drive to achieve the 2-3 shift. Or maybe the TV cable needs adjusting?????
@echota23 Жыл бұрын
An AOD transmission shift points can by adjusted by the kick down cable.

I have an 84 vert with a 5 speed and an 89 GT with an AOD. Both were purchased as AOD cars. I converted the 84 to a 5 speed. I gotta tell you that my 89 with 3k stall converter will really get it. To match the performance of the AOD with the manual, I have to be really hard on the clutch, trans, etc. An AOD with a stall (And good tires) is a force to be reckoned with from a dig.

How hard does she ride? seems like a lot. I guess you need that to run 12s.
@black88coupe2 жыл бұрын
The ride isn’t necessarily stiff. In fact, the front/ rear springs aren’t super stiff like some aftermarket lowering springs would be. The suspension is fairly compliant as the rear control arms have heim joints on them which really help them to articulate. The front arms have urethane bushings. It handles pretty well since the front to rear weight bias is VERY close to 50/50 so the car isn’t nose heavy even with the E7 iron heads. However with all that said it’s very noisy since almost all of the suspension is solid joints. As long as you take it slow over rail road tracks and try to avoid pot holes the ride is really pretty good for what it is. Hope this answers your questions.👍
@black88coupe2 жыл бұрын
You don’t need all that stuff to run 12’s. If you have a 5 speed and are good with a stick then you should be able to duplicate my times (12.68) fairly easily. Remember mine has an AOD which puts me at a disadvantage compared to a stick. When I started this build I have much quicker ET’s in mind therefore I went hardcore on some stuff. My goal at some point is low 10’s or maybe even faster. Therefore, I stepped up to all the good stuff sooner than later.

I bought my first stick car without ever haven driven stick and taught myself on the way home lol I finally got a 90 Mustang GT 5spd a few years later and still have it to this day, it had a NA 347 and is a fun street car.

@black88coupe2 жыл бұрын
Start with a quality shift kit in the AOD. Trans-Go makes a nice kit. With the O/D you can get away with a little more rear gear. 1st gear in the AOD’s are horrible. Maybe a small stall converter too if you want. Call me paranoid but I always run a big trans cooler and plumb it separate from the radiator.

What gears do this fox body have? and did you at least put Heavy duty valve springs on the heads or roller rockers? Because 12s and everything stock sounds farfetched.
@stickmansgarage94522 жыл бұрын
It’s not impossible for a stock 5.0 valvetrain to run in the 12s under the right conditions (at or below sea level air).
@black88coupe2 жыл бұрын
The car ran it's best pass (12.68) with 4.30's. It has 4.56's now in preparation for future upgrades. It does have 1.7 Cobra rockers and I also did replace the worn- out stock valve springs because after 120,000 miles and 6,000rpm shifts- the valves were floating. The car went 12.89 with stock E7 heads/ intake spacer/ electric water pump/ roller rockers. When I put on the modified E7 heads it went a best of 12.68.

Is your foxbody transmission a stock transmission? What gears do you have in it?
@black88coupe2 жыл бұрын
No it’s not stock. It’s been modified in a few different ways. I’ll list the mods: 1- 4,200 stall converter 2- SilverFox fixed pressure manual valvebody with a trans brake. 3- slight mods to the oiling system just to add a little extra insurance against premature wear and tear. 4- Solid input shaft. Ran it this way for quite awhile. Recently added a better gear set out of a 4r70w trans. Unfortunately, We haven’t really gotten a chance to take maximum advantage of the better 4r7Ow gearing as other things were giving us problems. Hoping to reap those rewards in 2022. Hope this helps.
