So the reason you don’t see a lot of frogs in Australia are as follows: WA can’t import any frogs from interstate and can only have local species NSW shops can not sell them, keeper’s / breeders can not advertise them for sale. Laws for keeping are complicated VIC can have a reasonable number of species, but they are on two tiers and a large number of common popular ones sit on advanced and can not be sold by shops SA have a much more open policy from what I gather ACT from what I’ve heard is a free for all NT unsure Tasmania unsure but expect they bias towards local species Policies of state and local,governments are destroying local habitat yet keeping is frowned Upon and yet could ultimately be the best way to ensure the survival of some species. QLD failures in bio security and managing invasive species with the cane toad and now fire and electric ants is having a devastating impact on wild species. Magnificent frogs in the Kimberly are now being impacted by the cane toad through a lung disease. A number of keepers not collectors in Victoria are actively working together to gather from collections being shut down across Australia hard to find species in the hobby to ensure their survival for us all to enjoy. These have included five years gathering enough animals to final breed Great Barreds, Leaf Green tree frogs, Blue Mountains, Southern Stoney Creeks, and a number of other projects. Reptile and “Amphibian” expos are not an easy option to get stalls in some states due to the organisations who run them and then general public often don’t purchase as they don’t have the relevant licenses required. A hobby at risk of disappearing along with many species. Enjoy the Great Barreds Corey sent you, a project 5 years in the making.

Awsome frog shed, thats cool idea. Enclosures ended up looking very slick. Especially when those plants grow. Happy little froggies. How do you keep heat in a frog cage , heat light, heat mat, or heated water? My guy keeps hiding cause its getting chilly.
@BeachesScalyBeasts
@BeachesScalyBeasts 7 сағат бұрын
Thanks mate! In this case I’m kinda bumping the ambient up in the shed with some cords and heat panels. That being said over my mag tree frog inside I use a small wattage heat light.

Hey mate, are the frogs hibernating now in winter out in the shed? I got 3 x Perons in a tank in the garage and I have the UV LED bar and a heat light on during the day to keep it natural and try to warm the tank for them to come out at night and only 1 comes out occasionally the other 2 are hibernating

Great video, what wattage lamps are using in the monitor enclosures 120 x120x60’s? I live on the Gold Coast and have use to heat sources 2 x 150w halogens in winter and only get 24 degrees at the bottom so I am trying to work out how you can can get 28 in the rest of the enclosure with only one heat source with the same enclosure? Great channel I have learnt a lot.
@BeachesScalyBeasts
@BeachesScalyBeasts 7 сағат бұрын
Thanks mate. They are usually 75 or 100 watts. Depending on the time of the year. Keep in mind with the amount of enclosures in a small room it holds heat very well. Also our home is well insulated. Barely drops below 20c in this room on a cold winters day. If I added more heat I’d cook the lizards.
@reeferstevo1408
@reeferstevo1408 6 сағат бұрын
Ok that makes sense being insulated then, I do get a coastal breeze everyday up here. Obviously I have the opposite effect in summer having to half the wattage or the dimmer turns them off on the scorching days. Thanks again for all your great vids and experience with multiple reptiles, may have to get me a gillens monitor later this year too

Hi mate, light wise make sure you do your research and get a decent output uvb t5 tube. Heating will depending on where you live and size of enclosure and your home temperature. Wood I tend to use a lot of gum tree branches. Otherwise I’d say keep checking out peoples enclosures for inspiration to make your own.

hey i have one of those repti zoo glass tanks u assemble, and it has areas the glass fit that arent sealed. Do you think i should silicone all the glass? i didnt plan on making a backdrop but i do need 3 or 4 in of soil and where the gaps start is right about 3 inches and i keep worrying about water or bacteria getting stuck in the cracks. its for a ball python viv. Right now i have 2 in or so of soil just to avoid stuff seeping down into the cracks on the side.

I'm currently working on a built from scratch enclosure for my adult black headed monitor and this video was exactly what I had been looking for. Not new to lizards, or even arid lizards, but this is my first monitor and I want to put together the best enclosure I can. You answered my question of what to seal the foam with too! I at times breed mealworms as well but have kinda let my colony go atm. Will fire it back up towards the end of winter. The chicken pellet I use is packed with calcium for egg production in the chooks but other than that I might throw in some leafy greens or pumpkin or something the night before a feed out. Whatever I have on hand and if I feel like they need it.

I know what you mean. Roaches are very easy and thrive off nothing. I suppose it depends on how many animals you have and whether that warrants you giving it a crack. For me personally it was 100% worth while.
