Reverses entirely electric there is no reverse gear in the transmission so if you don’t have reverse, you might have a problem with one of the electric drive motors. This is not something you should be trying to fix yourself. You’re gonna have to get to the dealership

Do you know the service interval for the eCVT fluid. Maintenance log says to inspect for leaks but never indicates when to replace it. Also, at 80,000 it says to fill air conditioner refrigerant. This isn’t the typical AC system and needs to be done for warranty purposes on the traction battery. Do you the equipment and plan on doing this yourself?

I do not know the factory service interval on the ECVT . I plan on servicing mine at 50-60k I’m at 43000 now. Yes I plan to do the refrigerant myself , the shop has a r1234Y Freon machine . The refrigerant cools the battery so yes it needs to be maintained .

@@JohnDiMartino I took a closer look and the service manual says at 60,000 miles and at 120,000 miles under additional service if you’ve been towing or hauling to change the fluid, but nothing under normal condition. These transmission have a low pressure pump and no hydraulic system like your typical automatic transmission. So apparently the fluid change is not critical like typical automatic transmission. I’ll probably change mine somewhere between 50 and 60K. Be nice if you can make a video on the AC system, you’ll probably be the only video out there.

I'm so surprised about the old oil state after 30 k miles (especially color)! Did you never change that before? What kind of oil are you using?
@JohnDiMartino
@JohnDiMartino 2 ай бұрын
@@cleytonsilva6879 the oil was changed three times before that I changed it at around 3500 miles and then the dealer did it as part of the Toyota care. They did the oil and filter at 10 and 20,000 miles. The last free service was 25,000 miles at which time they rotated the tires and topped off all fluids. So I did it at 30,000 miles and I sent out the oil sample. I did the same thing with my RAV4 prime. It turns out my local Toyota dealer uses excellent quality oil. don’t forget these engines are in a very low state of tune not working very hard , between the hybrid system taking over a lot of the idle time and helping during acceleration and cruising the gasoline, engine doesn’t have to work as hard and it doesn’t make as much horsepower as the regular version. The engine is tuned for economy and longevity primarily,not performance.

The TCCN recommends drain refill New Tacos transfer case,trans, and rear diff do everything at 30,000 miles first so you clean & drain the sediment off the magnets. Then every 30,000 for transfer case, rear diff and 60,000 miles for transmission. I missed that info did our 2019 Rav4 LE AWD at 70,000 miles then at 118,533. Congrats on then cross hybrid! They aren’t easy to get , I’ve heard dealers are going to be marking them up . My car was a 2020 the new ones now use 0W-8 motor oil ….. at the time I made my video. It was very difficult to find the motor oil people looked at you all confused when you tried to buy it even the Toyota dealer didn’t have it in quart or gallons. They did however have it in bulk they told me to provide them with a clean container I could’ve purchased it, I didnt like that idea much . Eventually I found Mobil one brand in a Walmart. When I serviced it again at 30,000 miles I couldn’t even find that I ended up buying STP in quarts from my local Autozone. It was a lot More expensive that way. I now own a Rav 4 prime it too takes 0-16. I have seen other brands now in zero16 my brother now stocks zero 16 in his shop., I’ve also seen Pennzoil platinum brand at Walmart. Changing the oil tomorrow on the rav4 doing the 40k service . I still have a leftover jug of Mobil one zero16 from the Corolla and an oil filter from it as well since they are the same I’m gonna use them up and then I’ll probably go with the Pennzoil going forward.Again congrats hope your new car gets here soon. From my experience whatever the EPA says the car will get you can easily do much better. I did 9 to 10 miles per gallon better than the EPA without even trying with the Corolla hybrid .

From what I've read on some car & oil forums Blackstone is absolutely horrible about getting samples turned, at least over last year or two. Some say if you return a sample in their prepaid bag via USPS they take even longer to get around to performing the analysis. Personally I'm going to be looking for someone else to do my oil analysis because of this.

I’ve got the tracking information to prove it , I didn’t want to sidetracked the video anymore that I did. I can make a whole of the video just on this situation alone and how poorly was handled by the USPS Blackstone labs was absolutely great like I said they sent out my sample and results before they even processed my credit card.

Thanks for the video. I read similarly on other YT videos that Toyota Oil is Mobile 1, with a Toyota label. to your point, the Toyota brand has a better additive package than Mobile 1 is this confirmed by any source? Also, I read on another YT video that the Toyota factory puts a special blend of oil as the initial fill that supposedly has even more additive for the initial break-in period and another reason not to change the oil before 10k as recommended. Any thoughts on this or if this is true? I have a new Lexus GX 460 with 3k and debating if I should change the oil at 5k vs wait for the 10k interval per manufacturer recommendations. If anyone knows or can confirm this would be great to know.

The dilution in the primes a25a is normal. It’s due to the low friction piston rings and is designed with this in mind. The engine is protected by changing oil every 5k miles even if you haven’t used the engine and ran on electric only. The car will cycle the engine periodically and run for like three minutes then shut back off. This is terrible for the oil. So you want to change it every 5k minimum.
@JohnDiMartino
@JohnDiMartino 6 ай бұрын
I’ve found out how to avoid this in most cases. Otherwise you are correct it runs it a few minutes and shuts down . When the battery is full, I found that you cannot regen brake , it’ll start the engine . Do not use cruise in EV mode if you don’t want to run the engine ,it’ll trigger something that starts the engine ,and use the defrost / blend button not the first defrost only. I run the gas engine usually 3-4x a week minimum I’m putting 10 k miles on every 6 months so it’s getting one every 6 months and I run about 35-40 percent miles in hybrid the rest Ev

Hi John nice video thanks for posting up your oil analysis. I have the Rav4 hybrid and am in Scotland. I have my car serviced annually at a Toyota garage and also do an interim oil and filter change myself after 6 months - so my car gets an oil change approx every 3000 miles. I use my car for almost 100% local journeys, usually less than 10-15 miles total - say, 30 mins driving time. Leading up to the oil change I can smell the petrol fumes when checking the oil level and when I drain the oil it stinks of fuel. Saying that the drained oil still looks very clean. I presume if I did longer journeys the fuel would evaporate. Do you do mostly short journeys when using the engine?

I agree and that’s about the mileage. That’s about the miles it has on it , the rest of these miles are all electric. This oil has about 4000 miles on it. It happens when engine is cold and while it reaches operating temperature. The warmup period is most crucial for oil and most oil degradation happens in that process. Severe driving conditions are what we all drive in and especially with hybrids when engine doesn’t turn on for days, weeks. It would be good to make sure engine turns on and runs at operating temperature for 15 minutes every driving cycle. Keep in mind that new hybrids also use very thin oil, 0W-8, 0W-16 and 0W-20. Mobil 1 does come I. Those grades and is a very good oil that meets Toyota standards. I am glad you did oils test, very few people would do it and you can see a lot from the results.

Hard to say but there’s no idle time once it warms up . That alone saves engine run time and anytime you lift the throttle it shuts off and doesn’t restart until you are pressing down enough to go about 40-45 mph on flat ground once you push past that it starts. On highway trips it runs 99 percent of the time only shuts when coming off the interstate . My guess is 75 -80 percent of the miles it’s running
