hello. My plane can't go parallel when driving straight on autopilot. It flies tilted about 2 degrees to the right. Even if you test all depending on the wind, you will get the same results. Can you tell me what the problem is?
@MidwestPanels
@MidwestPanels 10 күн бұрын
Ensure you are flying coordinated. If it's holding a slight bank but keeping you on the correct course, it's because that's truly what the airplane needs to stay on course.

I'm wondering if there is a way to remotely display my G3X screen on a tablet such as an iPad. I have a tandem seating aircraft and I'm hoping to start instrument training but I have no instrumentation in the back seat for the instructor to see. I'm being told that it's very unlikely that an instructor (or DPE for that matter) would be willing to train without being able to see the instruments. This certainly makes sense. I have a G3X touch, G5 and GNC355. Any thoughts?

Sling TSi builder here, with the factory fuel selector and boost pump. Great idea here and thinking of upgrading in the future. Watching the video, one thought comes to mind…according to the demo, when the selector is in a “illegal” position, both pumps come on. If that’s the case any consideration on changing the selector valve to one that accommodates a “both” position? If that were the case, then the engine could be fed from both tanks, and only when a fuel imbalance occurs, would the pilot need to specify which tank to feed from. This would eliminate the need to switch tanks unless an out-of-balance situation occurs. Just a thought.
@MidwestPanels
@MidwestPanels 24 күн бұрын
You can't do a both selection on most low-wing aircraft because you don't have gravity on your side. Cessnas, for example, gravity feed to the selector then from there go to either the carb or a fuel pump. That gravity feed means that the tank with more fuel has more push to the selector and thus will get drawn from. In reality, this causes the tanks to essentially equalize over time.

Hi. Im wondering if you can explained how to calculate a K-factor for fuel flow? Whats the proper formula on the G3X. I’m using Electronics International FT-60 sensor, and the formula I found is [G3X reported fuel used] x [previous K-factor] ) / [actual fuel used] but this it seems this formula is not accurate. I’m wondering if there is another way for calculation! Many thanks
@MidwestPanels
@MidwestPanels 26 күн бұрын
That is the proper way to do it. Be sure you are replacing fuel to the exact same level, that is the most common error.

I get a AHARs anomaly warning occasionally. I have done the interference test but have yet to check the vibration or redo the Mag/compass swing. Any thoughts? RV7 rear mounted Mag 22 just in front of the fin (vertical stab)
@MidwestPanels
@MidwestPanels Ай бұрын
The most common thing we see with this is either the wires loose next to the GMU or the rudder cables, this is especially true if intermittent. What typically happens is in rough air the wires or cables start to bounce and induce a magnetic field into the GMU. I would start there.
@waynestotton9982
@waynestotton9982 Ай бұрын
@ Thanks. I believe the rudder deflection was the biggest interference percentage when moved but still well within limits. Movement in rough air could certainly be the cause. I’ll have to engage the AP and climb in the back to have a look. 😂

HUD in the civilian world is fabulous for the visual transition from flying the needles in the soup to the final visual approach and landing, especially when the symbology is coincident with the contact scene. Projecting synthetic vision onto the contact scene can also be helpful, assuming that it isn’t so dense that it masks objects on the runway when you break out and pick up the runway.

I have said every IFR approach should be a VFR approach with the runway in HUD view. The aircraft could be flown through 'windows' to assure the flight path. The cross needles become a nice to have feature.

What would you suggest to adjust if the airplane sometimes oscillates gently in pitch during cruise (maybe 6-8 seconds per oscillation) when set to hold altitude? Would that be overall pitch servo gain, or vertical acceleration gain?
@MidwestPanels

If in smooth air that the pitch gain increase should help.

Having flown a HUD in both military and civilian applications I can say it was far more useful in the military aircraft than the civilian. Since you're not flying and trying to employ weapons systems at the same time in the civilian world. The most useful application I found for the HUD was during very low visibility takeoffs and that was in the 787.

Looks interesting. And unlike a windshield mounted HUD, it would always be within your field of view. Going to take some refinement in the hardware, though. Those glasses have very chunky temples/arms, so they probably would not work with over-the-ear style headsets. You'd need to go with an in-the-ear headset, like a Bose Proflight or similar.

Ya- I have been thinking about this for years... the UI here is critical, can not saturate the user with information just because you can post it to the glasses... AOA and CDI seem most useful as they dont take much real estate and can be processed easily by the brain.

That’s really cool! I’m glad to see Cecil’s work in there, too. I’m assuming there is no way for the glasses to know which way you are looking, so no ADS-B targets yet, but having the critical approach (or departure) info while in partial IMC would be great.

I am still considering this thing for installation. I already 3d-printed a similar device for checking for obtrusions (I attached a laser pointer to it). I will have to move quite a bit aft in my Bristell RG to have a free vision for the GHA15. Can someone pls. point me to the installation manual where the wiring diagrams etc. are included? The general G3X install manual does have the mounting description, but unlike for other extra Garmin hardware it does not at all refer to the wiring. I am just curious if I only need power and CAN bus or anything else for the GHA15.

What logic does Garmin use to switch between the ground and the flight fuel map? Airspeed? Attitude?
@MidwestPanels
@MidwestPanels 2 ай бұрын
A combination of GPS Ground Speed and Height AGL, as well as airspeed. I.e. if you perform a stall it knows you aren't on the ground because of your GPS height so it won't switch to the ground map.

Great video, Adam! Can you confirm that your installation has the TO/GA button also wired to the 750Xi - so pressing TO/GA also sequences the 750Xi from suspend, to execute the Missed Approach Procedure? Our aircraft's TO/GA button initiates the 7 degrees pitch up & wings level, but we still need to push the pop-up button on the 750 to sequence. There appear to be two schools of thought in this, and would be interested in your opinion. Thanks!

Adam: Thanks again for these great & informative videos. My G3X w/GAD 27 has a bug that Garmin tells me is a “software issue” they need to address. However, I’m anxious to try your setup tips as I have not seen any G3X updates for a while. My flaps retract perfectly. However, to extend them, I must hold the flap switch down for a few seconds (as to over-ride the system). And, when they do move; they go to the 20-degree preset, bypassing the 10-degree preset. They will move from the 20-degree preset to the 30-degree without issue. Interesting enough - the flaps will perform perfectly, in both directions, when in the G3X configuration mode. Take care, Barry

Important thing to mention - you want to be a good 50 feet away from structures or aircraft, or anything else containing steel. That also means doing this calibration on asphalt - concrete is filled with steel rebar that can affect the calibration.

You don't want to minimize impedance... you need to match it to the designed specification - typ 50-ohm z. I think you meant to say you wanted to say minimize signal loss which occurs through the cable and at every connection.
