If you store it, the ammunition in the basement, make it an point to have an dehumidifier going at all times. Do not have it running around the clock mind you, but have it set to maintain an forty, or fifty percent level. You could store ammunition in cardboard boxes that is eighty years old and beyond. I do so with the Turkish and Greek surplus eight millimeter Mauser ammunition. Not an problem yet in upwards of fifteen years. Better luck to this one in the future.
Mix up all your different manufacturers & bullet weights? No thanks.

Duty wise, 19x/45 all the way. For plinking steel or paper, G34 is just too fun when you’re shooting fast 😂🤷🏾♂️

"Exposed to some elements"? That's your problem, along with storing it in a corrugated cardboard box. The military stores ammo in stripper clips in cardboard sleeves in cloth bandoleers in steel ammo cans or cardboard boxes with no problems.

My grandaddy gave me shotgun shells he reloaded 15+ years ago in 40+ year old cardboard. If you tried storing the cardboard away from moisture, it wouldn’t look like that. It’s amazing how smart and dumb this community is at times.

I have this same model side by side with ejectors and damascus barrels. It was my Great Grandfathers and originally purchased in 1903-1904. I have used 0000 steel wool/oil to get the surface rust off the barrels any ideas on something stronger that will work?

I have vacuum sealed my ammo for long term storage in the original cardboard boxes, and store them in military ammo cans with silica packets. Overkill? Maybe. But I have 10 year old ammo that still looks brand new. Down side is it takes up a lot of ammo cans and space.

Why would you not protect your ammo from moisture in the first place? I've never come across this content creator before. Won't bother with him in the future for sure.

Side question. Should i place dessicant in my gun cabinet with my weapons? I just clean and oil them and lock them up now without dessicant. I have not stored my ammo in airtight containers with dessicant, but will now. My area has moderate levels of humidity so it may not be critical but it makes sense.
