Innate ability, good teachers, masses of hard work, passion, great colleagues. That would do for a start.😀

Your playing is utterly stunning in every way. I have both volumes of your edition. I play a wooden modern flute and also recorders. At 61 do I dare get a traverso? I can "turkeydiddle" and "territory" pretty well on my Yamaha and turn off the vibrato but nothing compares to a true traverso.

I finally get to meet the Renown Rachel Brown!, what a privilege to see and hear you play AND in a 2 - keyed Quantz Traverso!, may God Bless you Rachel, Amen.

Rachel, I hope you don't mind my asking a question. I just received an Aulos AF1 transverse baroque flute, and I understand the fingering. My question is, the flute is very smooth. When I play a C#, for example, there doesn't seem to be a way to push down on the flute to keep it in place. Do you cradle the flute with both thumbs on the bottom and then the left forefinger joint from the hand? Should I play the 7 key when playing the C# to hold it in place. Or, just try to balance the flute on both thumbs, and left-hand forefinger base joint?

I figured out a solution with holding the flute.

Diana, there are instructional books on the subject. If you can get hold of the Quantz book: " On Playing the Flute" you may gain a lot of insight into how to play this lovely and relaxing instrument.

I have 6 years of oboe, and 2 years of silver flute, NAF flute, and recorder. My flute teacher has recommended the Traverso, as it is made of wood or plastic. The silver flute hurts my ears. I have ordered an Aulos plastic Baroque flute, and am very excited to learn how to play it. Your music is inspiring!

Your flute sound is so fantastic! What is the final adagio you are playing in this video? I have both volumes of the Quantz sonatas and can't find it in there. Is there a third volume?

Hmm ... I just noticed that it doesn't have the Final Adagio you've mentioned ... maybe She's performing an Adagio that's not from the mentioned Sonata, to me, it seems odd that Quantz would have ended this Sonata (or any) with an Adagio, but I'm not an expert, hence, it's my humble opinion :)
