I have 6 years of oboe, and 2 years of silver flute, NAF flute, and recorder. My flute teacher has recommended the Traverso, as it is made of wood or plastic. The silver flute hurts my ears. I have ordered an Aulos plastic Baroque flute, and am very excited to learn how to play it. Your music is inspiring!

Rachel, I hope you don't mind my asking a question. I just received an Aulos AF1 transverse baroque flute, and I understand the fingering. My question is, the flute is very smooth. When I play a C#, for example, there doesn't seem to be a way to push down on the flute to keep it in place. Do you cradle the flute with both thumbs on the bottom and then the left forefinger joint from the hand? Should I play the 7 key when playing the C# to hold it in place. Or, just try to balance the flute on both thumbs, and left-hand forefinger base joint?

I figured out a solution with holding the flute.

Diana, there are instructional books on the subject. If you can get hold of the Quantz book: " On Playing the Flute" you may gain a lot of insight into how to play this lovely and relaxing instrument.
