You are still in the recovery phase so I wouldn't want to suggest anything other than what your surgeon or doctors team recommend. I can say it definitely took me a few months to settle into some kind of rhythm. Google a low fibre diet and a medicine called Lactulose. They definitely helped me!

I've been following your progress with a lot of interest as I too have had my rectum removed and am due a reversal in a couple of months. This sounds like a great way of being confident enough to get out and about once you've had your reversal and things are still a bit uncertain. Just wondering if your anal muscles will lose their abililty to function if you use the device too often?

Hi there, I haven't found any change at all tbh, if anything an improvement in my control. From what I understand the anal muscle issues tend to be for those who have had them affected by surgery or had them out of action for some time. I hope your reversal goes well, thanks for watching!

Hi, just found your channel as I have anal cancer and stoma formed. Watched all your vids. Question; so have you had your rectum removed? And if so - how can you poo? Also as you got used to your stoma, you still prefer life without it even though you have to poo lots of times a day. Isn’t that a hassle? I’m going to have to make these decisions myself in the future after my chemo. I like your straight forward videos. Thank you!

Hi thanks for the nice words! I have indeed had my rectum removed. The rectum sits just before the Anus and is like a bag that collects the poo. Mine was removed and a new smaller one created out of my bowel. This means I cant wait as long to go any more, but I use medical equipment to clear me out now. I far prefer this over having a stoma, but on the other hand could have lived fine with a stoma if I needed to. I guess its a very different question if its the Anus as that is the main way of controlling the operation. I would certainly listen to the medical advice on what they recommend. I wish you the best of luck whatever happens. You got this!

Hi there. I hope things are starting to improve for you already. I remember the shock at first of things not working as they used to. The bowel is an organ that doesn't like being messed with and takes a long time to get back into a rhythm! Obviously without being medically trained I cant offer too much in terms of advice but I can tell you time is a healer with this operation. Take care and best wishes!

Hi Richard, I didnt have a J punch as the are made out of the small intestine I believe. I had a temporary stoma made from the small intestine. (ileostomy) That has been reversed now and I'm back to using all my intestine minus the rectum which has been removed and one has been made from the leftover large intestine. On the the whole life is fine now. My toilet habbits have changed quite a lot but you learn to adjust. 😬

Hi there, it's approaching 1 year since my reversal now. In term of normal I don't think I will ever get back to that without a rectum. I am however quite used to my new routine and feel confident out and about. I go to the toilet between 5-10 times a day. Some days are good, some days are bad. Next year I will be looking at adjusting my diet to help. I hope your reversal goes well, I wish you a speedy recovery!

My husband had an ileostomy due to rectal cancer and had stoma takedown surgery about 3 weeks ago. He has found Loperimide as needed regulates the number of times he has to go and fiber supplement such as Metamucil 1-2 daily makes the consistency more "normal". He's now down to 1 to 4 times daily. Best wishes.

Hi there, the lower part of the bowel gets thinner and is more likely to rupture than if you have the procedure higher up. My surgeon believed 3 months was the best amount of time to let it heal before reconnecting. From my understanding this can vary depending on who does the surgery and what procedure is carried out. A rupture is bad news and can lead to sepsis.
