Great footage! For some reason though the audio seems a bit off (with the whistle at the beginning, particularly). And I agree the motorcade is equally entertaining!

That's flat out sweet. I have lived less than a mile north of the Chandler tracks for 42 years and I miss the 80s when we'd watch those guys pass while in PE class at North Hollywood high-school. For the last few decades ever since SP abandoned the line, it's been a stupid walking path. Who needs exercise? Boo I say, BOOO! More trains! The Chandler branch sure was cool.

Excellent upload of the Southern Pacific Railroad. 1960s and 1970's are the best from the SP. Thank You so much 👍👍👍👍 even though it looks like the 1980's I love 1970's the best...

'80's, probably after the branch was cut in half, as engineer is in 2nd unit that will be the lead unit for the return

Correct me if I’m wrong, but those locomotives are either SD40T-2’s or SD45T-2’s. I can’t really tell because of the video quality.

Lead 5 are SD40T-2 then last 2 are SD45T-2 by the engine numbers. You can also tell by the location of the cab, SD45T-2 centered over center axle, SD40T-2 centered between center axle and rear axle.

This is old school switching at is finest here! The whole crew was in sync. Reminds me of my days doing these things without a care in the world. No one watching, no one giving us problems. Just getting the job done and not getting hurt. I really miss those days.

Accept people DID get hurt back then. Traumatic amputations and dudes coupling themselves up were a lot more common then than it is today.

The Orowheat property is now home to General Motors' west coast design studio. I remember passing and crossing what was left of the branch a few times with my grandma in the early '90s.
