16:14 at first I was a little confused because this book reminded of another book by Jack Ketchum which nearly had the same plot... then I recognized that is the same book but we use another title here xD It's still a little confusing because in Germany this book is called "Evil". I think it's kind of strange to translate the english title of a novel into another english title... but well 😂 I always thought the original title of the novel was "Evil" as well.

For me, it's American Psycho. It's a good book, but boy, is it disturbing.

I tried reading Succulent Prey by Wrath James White and couldn't finish it. It was extremely too graphic for me. You may enjoy. Cannibalism is not my cup of tea and this book wallows in it.

The second apocalypse series by r Scott Bakker makes these all seem like children’s novels in comparison. Especially book 7. There is a point in life before you read these books and a marked point after. It will come close to breaking your psyche

Great review! The cipher was one of my favorites I read last year. I have read bad brains also and I enjoyed cipher more but bad brains was really good. I’ve also read skin by Koja which I didn’t like and a couple short story collection from her which are really good. I’ve also read some of her YA stuff which is good also but nothing like Cipher or Bad Brains. The next best I’d recommend would be Velocities by her which is a short story collection. It's such a lonely read isn't it? I read this too young and found it depressing, then wrote it off. I read it years later and was able to appreciate the beauty of it. It hit me so much more profoundly the despair and solitude of the text. It's such a unique reading experience too. x

Definitely agree with your points! The characters felt very flat and lacking. Jess was basically a plot device :/ it was disappointing bc the concept had good potential and the writing was vivid, but overall the edgy writing taking priority to plot and characters was definitely the downfall to the book

I don't often or ever really read horror or thriller, but … Off the top of my head, the first two are on your list: Blood Meridian-they are making the movie right now, they'll have to tone it WAY down. Blood Meridian is one my all time favorites. American psycho is so gruesome, I almost stopped reading it. The film is great, but they toned it down tremendously, because they had to. The Color Purple is ... wow ... anger-inducing disturbing. And I just finished James by Percival Everett. There are moments that just make you gasp at how callous human beings can be. (By the way, there is a lot of background noise in your video.)

I thought nick was a good character an the things he ended up doing worked. You gotta remember where hes at, what else could you do? Fight fire with fire. It's a horrible place, being a nice guy isnt gonna get you anywhere. I freakn loved this book, I wish I could find more afterlife horrors like this. There were a few small typos here an there but everything made sense to me an it was very engaging. Easy 5 out of 5. Will be ordering the sequel no questions asked

An excellent list! I am slowly trying to work my way through everything written by King, still have a way to go. I loved Gone To See The River Man and will get to the sequel soon. Under The Dome is the only book I have ever DNFd- or rather shelved- by Stephen King. I will definitely pick it up again as my wife enjoyed it.

I read Malorie in one day last weekend. I really enjoyed it too the point i couldn't put it down but i too felt the end was rushed and dis-jointed. The last few chapters were disappointing. I wanted to know more about Dean from the train, and how his and Malories relationship could have developed. Seems silly to know his sad story and then nothing. I thought the story of his kids was going to explain how Annette went mad, being blind. I wanted to know more about the train in general, how often does it run, how did they even build it back up and get it going! Tom - He was a little annoying, his attitude towards his mother that's kept him alive all these years. But i did like his character and his yearning to progress and not just survive. i thought he was smarter than to trust a guy like Gary 🙄 Olympia - Love her character, loved her secret and understand why she kept quiet because her mother is not open to other ideas/progress. I would have liked to hear more about what she sees, more about the creatures and how they behave. The ending was too rushed, some of it make no sense. Like the hole in the ground that Nathan left Malorie in, why? I know these bunkers were mentioned earlier in the book but that part made no sense. I wanted a whole showdown with Gary! To know why he stalked them all these years and did nothing, then just bumped into them on the train 🤷 So now the world can start over with two way mirror glasses, which doesn't really make much sense either. The only thing it means is if the monsters can't see your eyes, only themselves, they cant affect you? I need more, i love the whole story from Bird box onwards but i need to know about how the world regenerates itself and also need to know if the guy at the petrol station ever gets to see his sister! The most disturbing two books in the whole of English Literature are ‘Jude the Obscure’ by Thomas Hardy and ‘A Fine Balance’ by Rohinton Mistry. I was disturbed and depressed for a week after reading each of them. Masterful works, but be warned!

Gone Girl is a damn good book, but not disturbing at all.

this book does sound kinda neat but idk if its something i would go out of my way to read atm but it sounds like it has some cool ideas. hopefully the discord will be active again. i think after you took a break its going to take time for people to really come back
