C'mon everyone, let's do Interview With Vampire 🧛‍♂️ 🦇 ! I loved The Terror, and the fact of it being based on real people and events. Just the fact that these men had the absolute guts to go out on these frozen expeditions and knowing the risks, being out there in sub temperatures 🌡 no human can survive without extreme caution. Embracing scurvy and frostbite, food going rotten, the sheer panic of getting stuck in places within the ice. And oh how frustrating it was to hear all the bad decisions being made, which resulted in their situation. The creature was just the icing on the cake, which, combined with intense research, is what made this a Dan Simmons novel. I'll be honest, I'm not sure what Beloved is going to be like, but I'll still give it a go next month. I was hoping for the Victor Lavelle book, but I still may read it afterwards

The doomed Franklin expedition is a fascinating bit of history. Saw an amazing exhibit about it a couple years ago in Mystic CT. The Terror was a great retelling of the events with some excellent supernatural moments. Loved the book.

Loved this book! I’ve read several of Simmons’ horror books( nothing tops SUMMER OF NIGHT) and his short stories. His sci-fi is fantastic! HYPERION series is classic sci-fi.

Hyperion is incredible

**spoilery comment** The ending was so much more emotionally satisfying than "we killed it dead." Synthesis with nature was a lot more interesting too in a man-vs-nature narrative.

I totally think you should have videotaped this outside in yesterday's snowstorm for atmosphere. :-)

Hi I just found your channel and I’m like binge watching your videos cause I love to read. I just have one question, why is your clock always flashing? Lol. Also Beloved is so good, and I’m almost done with The Last House on Needless Street, also really good but a bit strange.

On another note, I wanted to mention that I don't mind longer books. I can easily see why some folks look at 700+ pages are a bit much for a monthly read-along but still, if you want to put books on here that creep up to the 400-600 page mark, I would definitely be interested. At least on occasion, anyways...

I agree that it was a shame that nobody else survived, but I really think if anybody had made it, Crozier's ending wouldn't have meant as much. Great book club pick!

@ 12:00 - Are you talking about Inuit throat-singing? Nothing supernatural about that.

Not exactly. SPOILER the monster literally plays lady silence like a musical instrument by blowing into her mouth. It's an odd ritual that another crew member witnesses.

@@JeBoardCrabshorts Yep, that's throat-singing! One person's vocal cords are activated by another person blowing down on them. Very eerie sound but quite natural. Search "Tanya Tagaq" for examples. I enjoy your videos, btw!

@@susansprague7304 Wow, that is crazy. I have never heard of that before. I thought throat singing was when they did weird resonance with their own vocal chords and sang two notes at once. Thanks for the info and im gonna go google it.

Ok so I DNFd this one because it was not worth the length of it IMO. But I'm willing to give the Amazon series a shot and Simmoms' Hyperion. But is it really WORTH IT? This one wasn't bad just pretty forgettable to be SO LONG
