I had the Tesla roof installed over 3 years ago , the best part was the $50k cost on a 3000 sq ft house (Tesla has significantly raised prices) and the two power walls it came with. The downside is the amount of energy it produces but by far the biggest downside is that you really cannot get up on the roof because of the glass surface, it is very slippery, don’t even think about getting on the roof if there is any moisture. If you are painting the house or doing any maintenance, you really need a harness, a pair of Vans skateboarder shoes with the sticky soles are a good idea also.

You can have up to 4 dc expansion packs behind a powerwall 3. The dc expansion pack must be within ~12’ of the Powerwall its being coupled with.

Tesla's guidance is that the batteries run down to near 0 capacity and black start with minimal voltage

If you're sold on Tesla, then it is a nice addition. There are, however, much lower-cost solutions than this.

people if you are going solar look at the reviews. I learned the hard way. I have 7 more years of payments to Tesla. I have a 15kwh system. NOt a solar roof. DIY is the way to go! otherwise you are losing money and tesla is not pushing it's solar as much any more bcuz they claim they are losing money. I've had two issues over the last 3 years. It's taken 9 months to solve those issues in total. for 4.5 months the panels did not work and I was still required to pay Tesla and for my full light bill with coserv here in texas. I live in frisco. I love solar. Tesla service sucks. I'd head rumors before and I picked tesla because we had tesla cars plus i'd read many other companies were filing bankruptcy. I felt tesla would be around for the full 30 years. Thought we were in good hands. I was wrong. Tesla does not answer their phone. You're forced to use the app. Everyone is sent to level 2 and no one will respond. Appointment time frames are always 2-3 months out. They always have to come back out... you'll wait another 2-3 months. Plus, they undersize your inverters. This didnt happen to me but it did happen to someone i referred. I feel so bad that i told others and they are now having issues. That said, when it works it works, but when it doesn't....

We just had to replace an asphalt roof under solar panned. The off-on charges were more than the roof replacement. Solar roof can replace individual tiles when needed.

Tesla REALLY needs to monitor these “authorized installer” companies. Just received an estimate in FL for 2,400 sq ft 15 kW system - $158,000…. WITHOUT any Powerwalls To quote Elon: “GFY!” Tesla needs to stop working with these unethical roofing companies if they want their product adopted.

Solar roof is a premium product. Not for everyone, and the margins aren’t as good as other roofing materials. Tesla is no longer installing solar roofs because of the install challenges they pose. Sorry you think we’re all unethical, but that’s simply untrue, and many of us are busting our tails to deploy this product with very little financial gain. With that said, the price you received for your solar roof does seem about 10-15% high, but it’s impossible to know without knowing your roofs complexity and existing materials.

And the latest study show that LFP batteries have a thermal runaway temperature that is only 100° different than their competitors and LFP batteries emit far more gases that are vastly more toxic. The entire industry has been fooled on LFP. And virtually all of these energy storage systems have business units which have never turned to profit. As well as contractors that are vastly under trained.
