Only concern i have is… why would I have to pay $25 a month to charge my car when i charge on excess solar now? If i have my own solar panels, i should be able to use excess for this purpose. They can sell the excess after i’ve had my fill.

We just signed up for the fixed rate (no choice) (12.2 kw/5.5kw) with EV charging($15 per car x2) . We get $100 credit each month for three powerwalls.... but they control the powerwall leaving 25% for reserves. Question on the buyback rate of 5 cents per KW...is that our excess solar that would normally go back to grid or stored power from your powerwall? or both?

Good question.. it’s both, the surplus solar once your batteries are at 100% SOC, and the stored solar from your batteries when Tesla decides to discharge them .

That's my worry with this is Tesla managing your powerwall reserves. We had a weather incident yesterday and my neighbor's powerwalls didn't even switch to storm-watch mode, so they were left with barely 30% reserve.

@@jesuslover1896 Yes, this doesn't make any sense why they cannot include storm watch. My guess is it comes back to greed. Tesla want the option to sell your power at a high price when the market price increase while only paying you 5 cent, even if you end up having no reserve for an outage. Nights free plan still works better for me. I can charge my car overnight for free and still get 3 cents when I have excess power.

Seems like a step backwards in inverter configuration. They've removed all MLPE (module level power electronics) from the design like back in the days over a decade ago before optimizers or micro-inverters. Plus the entire solar ecosystem is subjected to a single point of failure for both PV&ESS. If Tesla ever goes out of business and isn't able to provide technical support, the customer's entire solar system becomes obsolete and would need to be retrofitted with a completely new inverter and battery platform

If you want to compare your electric bill to another product, compare it to solar panels. The main value proposition of a Tesla power wall is backup power, similar to a generator. No one buys a generator asking how it compares pricewise to their electric bill. With that said, the average cost to install a 1 Tesla Powerwall is about $10k after your tax incentives. Let us know what other questions you have!

I have no idea what your commenting about because my question was simple? I paid this month in electricity $144 with a upto 3 hp pool pump that’s variable speed. It would take me 40 years to possibly break even on a $60,000 install in California. You sound like a salesman omitting upfront cost not including their interest rate if you have to take a loan

There is no law that restricts the size of an energy storage system. There are some utilities/cities that may restrict you depending on what national electric code they’ve adopted/are enforcing, but no federal or state law. Let us know what other questions you have!

2 questions: Do the actual solar energy producing tiles cover the entire roof like shown in the footage or only partial like shown on the computer with the software. how much more expensive is the tesla roof compared to a normal roof per square feet

Active tiles that produce solar energy cover what you see in the simulation, gaps between them where we can't put active tiles due to certain restrictions are filled with non active tiles that are custom cut for each individual roof to give that clean, uniform aesthetic look the solar roof is known for. The average square foot price is $35-$55 before factoring in the 30% tax credit and the 25 year electric bill savings.
