You're way too young to be putting anything in Treasury bills. If you're gonna go leveraged, do TQQQ on upturn, and SQQQ on downturn.
@davidh8279Ай бұрын
At approx 5:20 in, your math is wrong. You do not pay 15% long term capital gains on the full amount. You subtract the initial investment of $100,000 then compute the 15% LT Capital Gains tax on the remainder

I have been dollar cost averaging into a bunch of leveraged ETFs for years and this strategy has been working out very well for me. It’s even gone well through Covid. I’m up huge now with them. The thing with leveraged ETFs is to never put lump sums of money into them and leave it. That’s the worse thing you can do. There’s no risk reduction that way. Most people that I have seen that get wrecked with leveraged ETFs are folks that put large lump sums of money into them thinking they can just let the money sit in there like they can non leveraged funds.

Sell to cash when you drop below the 200EMA. Get back in when you cross back over. You can also use a 20/50 crossover. You would have been okay in 2022.
@coreymtb4 ай бұрын
Interesting! I analyzed a bunch of trend following strategies with it back in 2015 or 16 but didn’t find any to be robust. Are you using these applied to the entire portfolio value or each specific asset?
@ryanurban14 ай бұрын
Each specific asset. Obviously they'll move similarly, but once in a while you'll have one or two break off. Also keep qualitative analysis in mind, watching national and market news for important events. You can use 10/20 crossovers for bear market rallies, and/or inverse 3x ETFs. Right now I'm in UPRO, TQQQ, TECL & SPXL, because I'm completely nuts (and a retired financial advisor). This is not financial advice, but if you choose to do this, stick to the plan to avoid emotion, and hang on for the ride.@@coreymtb

2024.01.04 update: I've continued to invest more in the strategy and the performance has been 'what you would expect' relative to the side ways market we've had. It's up 6.54% since April, dwarfed by sp500. As some have pointed out I did botch in the amount of leverage used for backtesting in this (it's actually quite hard to record and be accurate), but hey while the ultimate return would be lower -- so would the risk.
@jjt1716 ай бұрын
HFEA actually outperformed the market in 2023 as well. but going forward it's better to wait and see the progress over long time horizons which is where the leverage and risk should hopefully pay off. 2024 should hopefully be a smoother year for the leveraged 60/40 portfolio

Webull started offering high yield for unsettled cash across all accounts, combined. So now I invest on the Margin account, keep emergency on the Cash account. Then I add 2 short-term treasuries under the same Cash account that pay on opposite days of the month, and also monthly (JAAA + HIGH). I call it Twin Turbo😅. You'd be surprised how fast that emergency fund grows, and it eliminates the risk.

Most brokerages i know of can be negotiated down and usually its just a question to be asked and sometimes they require your portfolio to be worth so much to qualify for lower rates than posted on their websites
