I tend to put this record up on my top 5 beatles "songs"/'single's. Just the raw lofi feel that it has to itself, capturing a small moment in the end of the Beatle's life span

Was hat diese seltsame Ono hier zu suchen? Zerstörerin der Beatles. Man merkt hier, dass Lennon ihr vollkommen hörig war! Und diese Frau lebt immer noch... .

I PRETENDED I WAS ONE OF THEM....BOUGHT BEATLES BUBBLE GUM EVERY NICKEL I FOUND...I was poor, had no friends, practiced British accent, learned guitar myself...I WAS ONLY 12...Reality came when I turned 16, had to get my haircut... Had to go find a job, then said goodbye to the Beatle dream that was all make believe.... LIFE IS HARD!!! here in the real world it's not that easy at all ! I WORKED A HORRIBLE JOB I HATED FOR 35 YEARS, AND NOW I AM A WIDOWER ... I AM 72 YEARS OLD NOW...

This is a wonderful post, getting to see the ephemera. One little thing - the word is "Crimbo." Their Liverpool accents make it sound like "Crimble."😊 Thank you for this!

I just learned the other day that they DID put the Christmas recordings out as a box set. How did I not hear anything about this? I think it was 2017. Maybe because it was only in vinyl and not also in CD form, that was a bad mistake if that was true. The number of people who would only buy vinyl is too small now.

I have always thought these Christmas message records, listened to one after another, are kind of the entire history of The Beatles in about 45 minutes. We go from the giddiness of 1963, to world weary by 1965, to psychedelic weirdness and introspection...and finally, they are taping bits separately. Paul is of course trying to put a happy face out there, then even his contributions are melancholy. John...has to be Johnandyoko and makes us suffer through a few minutes of their brilliant conversation. I cannot remember which year it is, but the greatest fucking thing on one of these is the "Podgy The Bear And Jasper" sketch, done by John and Paul. I may be reading too much into this but l don't think so. These two characters are huddled around an unlit fire, and realize they need to run an errand for supplies. I think this sketch is an allegory for their songwriting partnership. They need to get 3 things (matches, candles, and buns). They determine that the best way to ensure they get all 3 things, that one of them will remember matches, and the other, candles. That is John and Paul all the way. The real kicker is the 'buns'. They decide that they both will remember those. The 'buns' are their collaboration. One does matches, one does candles...and they work together to 'remember the buns'. Their collaboration. That is a beautiful John and Paul story. And, just in case you think l am nuts...even though the characters are switched, why do their names begin with J and P? There are a lot of other letters in the alphabet.

A fellow nutter. I completely agree.. but.. it may be bigger still. Try this: Cynthia said the following of the writing partnership ‘John needed Paul’s attention to detail and persistence; Paul needed John’s anarchic, lateral thinking.’ which, it seems to me, at the danger of ‘reading too much into it’, is exactly Iain McGilchrist’s late insight into Mind. He talks of ‘left and right hemisphere’ thinking, and posits that ‘left brained’ ‘Paul’ type thinkers have largely called the shots in the West. What’s needed, to redress the balance, is ‘right brained’ ‘John’ type thinkers.

I think it would have been nice if the Beatles had maintained their unity even if the unity was weakened, but that didn't come true. This is a record that truly represents the situation.
