It may not matter too much if you haven't got much provenance, if they're able to do DNA test on it, or have other means of verification. The provenance can sometimes add a lot to the value. I should think the lock must have been snipped off pretty early in his career. His hair was red, wasn't it. Get the record/s valued too. Can't be many of them about.

If you visit one of Sotheby's offices they won't charge you a fee for estimating the value, unless you need an official written valuation for insurance purposes. Phone them up first and arrane to visit, or just find out their nearest auction base to where you are. Either use them or Christie's, which is the other world's top auction house. When I was a picture dealer (after working at Sotheby's) I use to just walk in to their place, or Christie's, or Bonhams. But might be best to phone first. They have different premises sometimes for the more valuable and less valuable stuff. Also, phoning in, they can advise you on what they need for proof etc. Please don't just leave it unvalued. And I'd keep quiet about it and lock it up safely! I love the fact that they lampoon the song "Yesterday". I'm sure they were tired of playing it straight for people. 1966 saw the end of their touring and instead became a studio band with remarkable results.
@Rupert14 Жыл бұрын
I have always thought these Christmas message records, listened to one after another, are kind of the entire history of The Beatles in about 45 minutes. We go from the giddiness of 1963, to world weary by 1965, to psychedelic weirdness and introspection...and finally, they are taping bits separately. Paul is of course trying to put a happy face out there, then even his contributions are melancholy. John...has to be Johnandyoko and makes us suffer through a few minutes of their brilliant conversation. I cannot remember which year it is, but the greatest fucking thing on one of these is the "Podgy The Bear And Jasper" sketch, done by John and Paul. I may be reading too much into this but l don't think so. These two characters are huddled around an unlit fire, and realize they need to run an errand for supplies. I think this sketch is an allegory for their songwriting partnership. They need to get 3 things (matches, candles, and buns). They determine that the best way to ensure they get all 3 things, that one of them will remember matches, and the other, candles. That is John and Paul all the way. The real kicker is the 'buns'. They decide that they both will remember those. The 'buns' are their collaboration. One does matches, one does candles...and they work together to 'remember the buns'. Their collaboration. That is a beautiful John and Paul story. And, just in case you think l am nuts...even though the characters are switched, why do their names begin with J and P? There are a lot of other letters in the alphabet.
@gooders7366 Жыл бұрын
A fellow nutter. I completely agree.. but.. it may be bigger still. Try this: Cynthia said the following of the writing partnership ‘John needed Paul’s attention to detail and persistence; Paul needed John’s anarchic, lateral thinking.’ which, it seems to me, at the danger of ‘reading too much into it’, is exactly Iain McGilchrist’s late insight into Mind. He talks of ‘left and right hemisphere’ thinking, and posits that ‘left brained’ ‘Paul’ type thinkers have largely called the shots in the West. What’s needed, to redress the balance, is ‘right brained’ ‘John’ type thinkers.

Now THIS is where their Christmas fan club records get REALLY interesting! The first two are nice friendly thanks for being a fan and Merry Christmas type of messages, but HERE, they start doing off the cuff improvised silliness, and every fan club record only gets better from this point on. It is a tradition in my household to break out the Christmas album and play it every year in the month of December. Enjoy this while you can, because I wouldn't be surprised if it gets deleted soon.
