Did you have to go to a service center to order a hew heater? Tesla doesn't allow the general public to order parts from their website and I'd rather not risk an ebay unit. thanks!

@@draako3516 if you have a service center nearby, yes, go there and order the unit. The other option is to contact your mobile technician and ask him to order the unit for you and possibly even deliver it to you at no extra cost. In my case, I contacted the mobile service technician, and I met him close by when he was in the area to pick it up.

Response in defense of the Bolt engineers: HVAC - they put button because their customers are new to EVs largely and cannot do screen only and could not do buttons only; Neutral - very useful for towing, or if there is a motor failure; Shift to R via N: prevents sudden stops where the user abruptly hits brakes and slams it into reverse and causes the drivetrain stop system to grind; Lower turn signals and reverse - no explanation, they wanted to have cool brake lights at all costs; Most cars require to buy safety features but the Bolt does have excellent safety for a base car. What is weird is the cheap and tall seats until 2023. Very thought provoking video - TX!

I Sat in My Chevy Bolt for three hours in the Louisiana heat last summer and only lost about 6 miles of range. ALl the people who died from the heat would have likely lived if they had an EV.

I watched the older video someone posted a couple years ago and still had a few questions after watching. This video answered them all and made the process simple. It took 3.75 hours for my son and I to complete the job. Tesla quoted my son 1.5 hours, so that doesn’t seem too bad. I had already taken side trim and under the glove box apart many times in the past so that wasn’t difficult with experience. The suggestion to lift carpet in the middle to help fold back out of the way was extremely helpful. Under the car is tricky but just be patient. It definitely helps to jack the car up as high as you can. I own quickjacks so that makes it much easier. I was able to source a very slightly used heater from eBay. It was in great working order. Thanks for putting this video together and showing the software pairing at the end. It saved my son $650+ going the DIY route.

Are your new tires better than just an all terrain tire? They look like some BF Goodwrench AT tires I’ve had on past vehicles.
@RMTFamilyАй бұрын
These have a severe snow rating, they have a three-peak mountain snowflake on the sidewall and are designed to provide traction in extreme winter. The last few days with snow, slush and ice they stuck way better than the Good Year tires that were on there. An all terrain tire is does great in warmer weather on many different surfaces, but doesn't handle winter weather like this one does. We have an extremely steep driveway to the upper part of our property, people usually park down below and walk up in the winter. Today again I drove up without any issues and back down at walking speed without slipping and sliding. Just a before I changed the tires the traction control would kick in going uphill and downhill I was crawling at a snails pace but it would still start to slide eventually all the way to the bottom.
@JeepLJАй бұрын
Thanks for your reply and the great content, your model s videos have helped me and inspired me to work on my s at times. Beautiful area that you are at, I guess winter is a little bit of a trade of for that. So you have a few sets of wheels for winter and summer tires. Do you do this on all your Teslas now? I’m also curious your thoughts on rear wheel drive vs awd? You need it more than I do, but I’m thinking of getting awd on my next Tesla.
@RMTFamilyАй бұрын
@ Yes we have two sets of wheels for our vehicles. I usually look for factory wheels on eBay and Craigslist. The Cybertruck wheels were take offs with no miles on it, but I had the winter tires put on. I had a very similar wheel purchase back in 2018 for the Model 3, those wheels had a couple hundred miles on it, but I also had winter tires put on those. For the Model S I purchased refurbished rims from a place that specializes in refurbishing rims for all makes and models. I installed the TPMS on those and then had winter tires put on. Our Model 3 is AWD and works great all year long. Our Model S is rear wheel drive and works just as great as the 3. Traction is given by the tires first and foremost. Traction is not just needed to keep going but even more to stop, especially in an emergency. Tires are key regardless of drive type. Tesla’s rear wheel drive vehicles are outstanding when it comes to traction control and keep you going in almost all situations, in very rare and extreme cases it may not keep up with the AWD. My wife has been driving the RWD S for a few winters now without any issues. I would not hesitate to purchase a rear wheel drive Tesla again. If we would talk ICE vehicles then the situation is different. The electric drive train allows for much better control and no loss of torque or power when traction control comes on. But in ICE vehicles the traction control takes the throttle away first, which drops the engine down to idle and there is no torque or power available with an ICE. So even as the vehicle gains traction again it may get stuck because the momentum is lost and not enough power is available to keep going. So in the case of an ICE vehicle AWD is beneficial as the same amount of engine power is split to four wheels instead of two, which means it is less likely to loose traction in the first place.

@ thanks again! I have a 14 S 60, my first Tesla. Love it, love the free supercharging. Fixed stuff here and there, your videos helped with the suspension work. Only problem is my range and my commute is over an hour a way. Been waiting to see if Tesla would offer free supercharging transfer again, to buy a new model Y. Also curious to see the refreshed Y and possibly consider a RWD cybertruck for the price, but I have a F150 that is great for all the towing and such that I need a truck for. With your wisdom I would consider a RWD model with an extra set of winter tires.
@RMTFamily29 күн бұрын
@ As the new Model Y comes closer to release it maybe worth waiting for. Not sure when the single motor Cybertruck will start production, that could be a while. I still have our Dodge 3500 as it can load and tow more than the CT. We basically only drive the trucks when needed, other than that we stick to the 3 and S. I think a Y would be a great option for you. Trucks are always more expensive to drive regardless of what type it is, ICE or EV. The Y is way more efficient and cheaper to run than any truck. It would be a great option for your daily drive and then some. I guess you could even spec it with a hitch and tow a small trailer instead of using your truck. Thank you for watching our videos 👍

I dont own a CyberTruck nor would I ever care to, but people in the comments seem to think Tesla is the only one out there with design flaws. How about those Ram Eco diesels with pressed on cam gears, or the Chevys with the 10 speeds that randomly lock up, or the fords with the faulty intake valves that can drop and lock up the motor. The same people bashing the cybertruck will be the ones down playing and defending the issues from their own favorite auto maker.

If you first drive the flat tire up on a rock or some blocks, then raise the suspension up block the frame then lower the suspension. Then you wrestle the flat off the axle. Now you remove the rock/blocks and put the spare on then carefully drive off the blocks supporting the frame. A similar procedure, with out the air suspension part, is in an old military manual "Manual for the wheeled vehicle driver".

I dont think the issue is an instant seal failure but gradual lowering you might not notice if youre under the car. By the time you catch it, could be too late. Unfortuantly, a friend of mine in elementary school had a father who raced stock cars and was found in his shop, pinched under his car due to trusting his high quality, name brand, jack. Using some wood between the head of the jack and the cross member between the front wheels is a good way to mechanically hold the jacks in a way where even if they fail, you're safe.
