What do you do to get your clothes looking not wrinkled from the cubes? Travel steamer?
@FindingGinaMarieКүн бұрын
Great question. We learned that if we don't compress our "compression cubes," that our clothes tend to be less wrinkled overall. Instead, we allow the compression feature of our luggage to make things fit better. The wool I wear tends to only wrinkle a little, and if I take it out of my suitcase, then the wrinkles mostly will dissolve. Kevin's short sleeve dress shirts have some linen in them, so his do tend to wrinkle a bit more. We put them in the bathroom and allow the steam to mostly remove the wrinkles. We also wash them in a gentle cycle, so they don't have a ton of wrinkles that form in the first place and we will sometimes shape them on a towel to dry. We never dry them in a machine, but it always only takes a few hours before everything is ready to wear again, except in the most humid of climates where it may take overnight (but that's been very rare). At one point we looked into a dual voltage steamer, but we didn't want to give up the space in our suitcases. Also, because we don't wash our clothes that often (wool has amazing antimicrobial qualities), just wearing them and folding them neatly or hanging them keeps them fairly wrinkle free. I will very occasionally iron one of Kevin's shirts if we are in a hotel or Airbnb that has an iron (but that has only happened twice!). -Judy

It really is a terrific place - one I could retire in easily - if not for the killer heat ! -- I'm old and doubt I could handle those temps. - with all that humidity ? -- Heat stroke recipe for many. -- Otherwise - a wonderful city with international food available - and quite awesome people. Also has a very low cost of living ! Much to like.

Great video! I've come to realize over my visits to Tokyo that the best place to stay is really Ueno for the following reasons: 1. Near the Keisei Skyliner station. FYI: Keisei Skyliner is the train that takes you from Narita Airport to Tokyo. It has two stops if I remember, Nippori and Ueno. 2. Near JR Ueno Station. If we're the same type of traveler who uses major cities as base for daily day trips outside, then Ueno is the place to stay in Tokyo. I usually take JR Ueno Station as my station to exit Tokyo to take the Shinkansen elsewhere. Another Shinkansen station is Tokyo Station but Tokyo Station is so very crowded for my liking. 3. Ueno is a rather quiet neighborhood. Its not too desolate but not too crowded either. I also noticed that you don't see a lot of young people staying in Ueno. I usually see families and older couples in the hotels that I'm staying in. 4. Its has the perfect balance. It's in the city, but you are close to Ueno Park where you can get clean, fresh air in the middle of the city (although you can get clear air anywhere in Tokyo), its near Asakusa, which gives retro/old japan vibes. 5. It's not the number one choice for travelers to stay. Which is perfect for me. You don't get the super rush hour vibes here like you do when staying in Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ginza, etc. Ive tried staying in other places, but I always found my way back to Ueno. I'm coming back again in two weeks, and yup, Ueno always and forever. My second home in Tokyo. :)

We typically film our videos when we are in a city, but we don't always have time to edit them while we are still local, although it's only recently that we've been traveling ahead of our videos. By being a little ahead, it gives us time to have enough activities and content to fill a video, which for us can happen over the course of a few weeks. We have an episode coming from Seoul, then an episode comparing Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea and THEN we'll share our time in Orvieto. And yes, we are here now, but half of the time we've been here has been spent editing our last video! We still have more exploring to do before we can share something from here. yeah well, for one I have to say that Kyoto is super touristy but then... that's for a reason. I think when going to JP you should definitely go, but 3 days is plenty I'd say. however, japanese food is wildly overrated. yeah they have a few good dishes but more often than not it's way too pricey (esp if you consider the local incomes), lacking vegetables and that sense of satiation and satisfaction. i feel like people who fetishise japanese food are either brainwashed or have never had a truly good meal in their lives. if you want to eat japanese really well you have to spend an absolute fortune and get reservations well ahead of time. even for a decent/mediocre meal you will have to line up and wait a long, looooong time. naw. also, asia is generally really bad with deserts. the french and italians really nailed that, there's simply no comparison. every random french bakery will have better croissants than the priciest, most instagram-hyped artisanal japanese "bakery" and their bizzarre conceptions. skip the desserts. matcha whatever isn't as good as people want to believe.
@FindingGinaMarie4 күн бұрын
We actually much preferred Kyoto to Tokyo. Kyoto has so much tradition, which perhaps is what you are mistaking for being touristy. Also, there's a lot of good food in Japan, and the country's food practices are very clean/hygenic, which is why we felt comfortable eating sushi there. We did miss some vegetables and salads, but we found that to be the case throughout a lot of Asia/Southeast Asia. In Vietnam Pho uses a lot of herbs and greens, so the way they use vegetables is somewhat different. But we can't knock Japanese food too hard because we found plenty of it in Taiwan, Thailand, and South Korea. Japan had plenty of French bakeries if you're not interested in Japanese bakeries. Their ice cream is tasty, and we enjoyed their jiggly pancakes and fruit on a stick, which also is popular in other countries. Japan is one of the world's largest economies, so we didn't think that food prices were overly expensive. We spent 40+ days there, so we had a good amount of time to explore, but of course, there's still so much that we still only scratched the surface. -Judy 🎥 Japan travel series: kzbin.info/aero/PLNT98lWfwdF0V4Brx4J0uWJdQENFZKWBT

@kyungshim6483 I don't think we were expecting to need to "doctor" it up so much. Kevin is Irish and there's a lot of boiled foods in Irish culture (or maybe that's a reflection on his mother's cooking) and the foods stand for themselves. We added some red paste, but I think we were intimidated by adding too much and adding too much heat. When we asked our waitress if we should add any of the other Bachan to it, she said no. If you can afford it, central Innere Stadt district is what we would have preferred. It's definitely pricier and more touristy. The area where we stayed was much more budget friendly and not far from the center, especially if you're willing to hop on the nearby subway (Landstrasse). Truly it wasn't prohibitively far away for how budget friendly it was; it just wasn't the atmosphere we had hoped to have. We hope you have an amazing time and would love to hear what you decide and what you think of it! Thank you so much for watching. -Judy

How how do you find the legitimate tour guide? Are there companies?
@FindingGinaMarie5 күн бұрын
We are most comfortable checking reviews on Airbnb Experiences and Viator/Trip Advisor. We've had negative experiences through Get Your Guide, but positive experiences through With Locals. We're fairly skeptical about people who promote themselves on Facebook groups. We prefer small group tours whenever possible. As far as Vietnam, we highly recommend seeyouinvietnam.com. The owner, Nguyen, is an amazing tour guide. Thanks so much for watching! Here are links to the rest of our series from Vietnam. Our guides are all listed in the descriptions, but feel free to reach out if you have any questions at all! -Judy 🎥 Vietnam travel series: kzbin.info/aero/PLNT98lWfwdF0w1OZR1ZwgqGRPRMKXZaNB

Hello! I just found your channel. You're obviously very experienced travelers! Busan sounds like Pusan because the Korean language doesn't differentiate. The name is 부산 where ㅂ sounds like a combination of our B and P sounds. 😊 The spelling is just for foreigners who use the Latin alphabet. Looking forward to more Korean videos!

Thank you so much for watching, Angela and for your insights! From what we read, Busan uses RR (Revised Romanization), "which uses only the English alphabet without diacritics, so as to use the QWERTY keyboard, which is the standard for English computers in Korea and throughout the world." Not sure how accurate that is or not, but it is one of the several points we read about. It's always fascinating to hear the evolution of language. We are looking forward to sharing two more videos from South Korea over the next two weeks, and we hope you enjoy them! -Judy

Thank you so much for this comment and for watching! We absolutely loved our time in Seoul and our big regret was that we didn't get to spend more time there. It was much different than we thought. According to what we read, we thought it would be more hectic and chaotic (similar to NYC or Tokyo), but instead we found it much more peaceful and diverse in the best of ways. We loved our time in South Korea! -Judy

@@FindingGinaMarie I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to Seoul! On your next visit, I highly recommend exploring Korea during the autumn season to enjoy Korea's beautiful autumn foliage. haha

@@user-uw7ly5hr8j We did that in 2023 in Japan and it was exquisite. We worry a little that late November might be too chilly for us in South Korea, but maybe earlier in the month is tolerable. It may be worth it though! -Judy

Thank you so much for this thorough video -- I really appreciate it! Very well-done and informative -- and a lovely website! In need of a suitcase for my first trip (two-week holiday!), and prefer having a carry-on (scared a checked one would get lost 🥺). I thought that particular Briggs and Riley suitcase looked small on their website, but seeing how well you guys pack, I think I can manage! This is the best video I've seen going over the suitcase I am looking at, and I also learned a lot more about traveling/packing from you guys -- I can make a better choice, now. Thank you 😊. If you guys have ever used United Airlines and done this, did you ever have an issue when bringing on the suitcase in this video as your carry-on, and your backpack as a personal item to go under the seat? Specifically, I like Kevin's 20L backpack overall, but also curious about Judy's experience with her backpack. I'm thinking of doing this, but both backpack's dimensions are a bit larger than the maximum allowed personal item size, and I'm not sure how strict United actually is about that.

Thank you so much for watching and for the compliment! We have been really happy with our Briggs & Riley suitcases. We do stuff ours pretty full! United especially has never been an issue with these suitcases. They perfectly conform to size restrictions. Our biggest issue is on discount airlines because of weight, not because of size. Both of our backpacks also fit under the seat. Viet Jet was the only airline that ever weighed our backpacks, and fortunately it was not an issue (and it was only on one of our flights). Generally speaking if you are wearing it, no one is going to give you an issue. Mine is actually slightly longer than Kevin's, but it still fits under my seat, and we both have ours loaded with a water bottle and an umbrella and it still doesn't make either of them too wide. A link to our gear guide is here: GEAR LIST: findingGinaMarie.com/gear Also, this video you just watched is most accurate about what we are carrying, how we pack, etc., but you can watch our original packing video when our suitcases were new because Kevin goes into a little more depth about some of the Briggs & Riley features. There's a table of contents in the description if you want to skip around. We are happy to answer any questions at all about what and how we pack and travel! -Judy 🎥 How we pack (2023 version): kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIXCpYilqsdnnJI

Thank you for your time and posting. Going to VN and will stay at very nice places; about US$30, and splurging once in a while. In the past, I've only stayed at Youth Hostels or Backpackers. If I have my own bathroom, excellent. :)

That sounds like a great plan and it's definitely doable within that budget. Because we work so much, having room to spread out is helpful to us, but we know that not everyone travels the way we do. But you can save money if you decide to hang out in one place for a week or a month at a time because Airbnbs do offer discounts. -Judy
