Nice looking build, For me the problem with your first attempt is that the base color dunkelgelb was to light so the contrast was quite harsh. I would have tried giving the whole model a wash to tone it down a bit. If that didnt work then I would have repainted it using the original bas color at 10% mixture with 90% thiner. Your desire to have a more faded look is a nice idea but in reality most of these vehicals did last long enough fir the paint to fade. Back in the 1980s I was talking to driverwho was on the Western front in Normandy, His unit was to the front in panzer IV Ausf H and of the 12 tanks only 2 made it after they were attacked by the RAF. Not one of the tanks lost had fired its gun in combat. As the war went on the crews became less experienced and the vehicals were lost quicker and quicker due to their inexperience.

Thank you Rick. As a Canadian ex-mil and currently 25 year first responder, I really respect this effort. Thanks to you, Nightshift, Scale Model Club 2, ColdemonsPL, Diorama Devil, I took back up the hobby after 15 years and you have all really helped up my game.

Wow, what a great result you can achieve with the sponge, so simple and yet so effective. I'll make my next diorama like this. Top!

If you heat your guitar strings til they're cherry red and let them cool, it'll anneal them and allow you to really pose them 🙂

I glued the barrel of my 8" M1 by pouring just enough JB Weld through the forward seat (that I cut out) to submerge the button and a little beyond that, there's no way that thing's going to move a thousandth of an inch without explosives, the two parts are one, that might help you in the future. Great job by the ways! PS Get the mix ratio as close as possible (I use a Triton T3 electric scale) and it should take about 2 1/2 hrs to stiffen up (keep a sample to test), you'll want to check the alignment every 20 minutes so it doesn't cure cockeyed

Rick this is just splendid. I do wish you could have provided significantly more close up footage. You mentioned part of your reasoning for brush painting the tank because it wasn't much bigger than a 1/35 figure and I agree. But since you did most of your work at 1/35 distances it's hard for me to see how your techniques affected the finish. Why yes my eyes are old! You did have some which I appreciate but those were shone in black and white.

Hi Rick, that was a very simple tutorial on soldering, it was explained in a very easy to understand way, I may even try a bit of soldering in the future, as I do have a MiniArt T-55 with full interior to build and I do believe it will have photo etch in the kit, thanks again for the great video, best regards from Australia, les

Watch the Malta Story movie if you've not see it. It's well made. The scene of the crippled tanker arriving, her crew paying the ultimate sacrifice to save Malta, is heart wrenching.

Hi Rick, I used to drive an FJ55. Back then, the term SUV hadn't been coined. These were Landcruisers. They will always be Landcruisers to me, much like Land Rovers will never be an SUV. LOL!

The bottom piece of the radiator is on backwards. The dropped door should be in the rear not the front. Ultimately it doesn't look like it matters since your diorama completely masks this, but in case you build another Spitfire in the future. 😁

Thanks for this series Rick. It was a pleasure to see the two projects come together with the underlying theme of “out of my comfort zone”. As modellers exploring new ideas and willingness to try new things moves us along to improved skills and results. Thanks again for the inspiration.

Amazing build, bravo! Here from Jamie's channel, been following his updates and subbed to see your progress too - very inspiring. I was wondering about how the aircraft ended up in that position, if it were me I'd probably try to land parallel to the waterline, but I could imagine that the aircraft could be swung into that position if it dipped a wingtip into the water. Who knows? We'll probably never discover the truth... See, that's when you know it's a successful model; the storytelling is so good it makes you want to know more.
