This was super helpful, but now I truly understand the course after running the Catalina marathon over this past weekend. The rain soaked across the island creating very slippery and dense mud conditions for the entire run. There were multiple water crossings with some as high as my waist! It was truly epic and a humbling course to run. Can't wait for next year! This video really helped Coach Steve.

Steve, this is a great video showing the route. I'm super interested in doing this one but after watching the video I would need to shift my training. Looks pretty challenging!

I see this was made long ago but still relevant. I read Galloway's book. That method would drive me crazy!!! I do use aid stations to walk. This is a suggestion of Hal Higdon. I do the talk test and monitor how I feel. I'm learning.

Thanks!. After 4x surgeries ( both achilles & both knees) n 3x marathons, wish I would of learned this method 27 years ago. But will do this from now on.

Could this apply to running faster? At about 9 mph or is this more for distance?

I found to get rid of (my) shin splints is to get on a treadmill, set it to 5% and 4.0 mph and fast walk for an hour 3X/week and do that for ~3 weeks. I also found that the results of consistent running will be about felt around 3 weeks (breathing wise).

I have tried the running until you're tired method and the Galloway method. I have found the problem with running until you are tired is that you are already tired and it's tougher to start running after the walk. If you find the right ratio for "Jeffing" you stay fresh longer and definitely have more gas in the tank in the second half of the run. Also, it's not all about the breathing. It's also about joint and muscle preservation. I have done two half marathons and ran both all the way through, on long non-stop runs I experience soreness in my right hip. Since I have been experimenting with the Galloway method at a 5:1(run/ walk) ratio I don't experience any soreness as I would on longer runs. Not saying one is better than the other, just sharing my honest experience.

so, would you recommend run/walk? i'm a beginner, just started to run a few weeks ago, and i have the feeling of guilt when i walk 🤣 i wanted my pace to be under 6m/km on strava
@jmdrummer74 жыл бұрын
@@StarBattle08 If you're a beginner, run/walk is the way to go. I wouldn't worry so much about the time for now. As a side note, run/walk is best for long distance. Set a goal to be able to run 5k without a walk break.
@StarBattle084 жыл бұрын
@@jmdrummer7 Ok, Thanks. I was able to run around 2.5km without walk in between, but i started to get side stitches and on my shoulder

I'm confused is the magnesium coming from the filtration unit or the electrolyte Ballance product?
@Frotobagginsrevenge4 жыл бұрын
Both. the system itself infuses a small amount of magnesium bicarbonate into the water after filtration. In order to supplement larger doses of magnesium its recommended to use one of the electrolyte balance products.
@MoonLight-qw8sz2 жыл бұрын
You can get all the magnesium you need just from the filter. This is for if you don’t have the filter

Good job man and thanks for sharing. I have done 5 Half Marathons this year and would like to make Catalina my first Marathon hopefully in 2020. Traveling from Portland Oregon and I am kind of intimidated by the flight, ferry, hotel and just the overall planning it takes to get there.

Would u say they are soft and springy, or on the firmer springy size? And r they true to size?
@MarathonTrainingTV5 жыл бұрын
Gary, I'd say firmer springy side and I like that about them. For Skechers they are true to size. I run in shoes at least a size large. My dress shoes are 10.5 and I run in 12 in most brands. The Run Ride 7 run big I wear an 11.5 in them
@garyhaber69575 жыл бұрын
Hey bro, I finally got these in Australia. Apart from there looks, I don't like them at all.... I don't like the new hyperburst material.... at first it seems to feel ok and yes it's springy, but a very firm springy.... and after hitting the road when you start to exceed that half an hour mark, my feet got sore, and then very sore and fatigued, and shortly after, so did my legs..... and a while after that , it actually becomes torture... How I miss the Skechers Gorunride 4 and 5.... that Resalight material was awesome, and those shoes especially the 4s were built amazingly and left you wanting to keep on going.... and these, for all the hyperburst hype, caused me to slow down and eventually stop because they were so uncomfortable and firm. And the upper didn't help either. It's harsh and uncomfortable, and the shoes don't provide for comfy toe splay. I would need a long foot massage after these razors. Also, there is some kind of underlay at the front of the shoe on the inside, which after a few days seemed to protrude outwards rubbing onto my little toe making it red and almost causing a blister.... I have sent them back for replacement under warranty.... How Skechers have gone backwards. I need to find another brand.... with every model they bring out after the Ride 4s, they get worse and further away from what they originally were. Can u tell me if the Hoka One One Hupana EM are this firm, or softer and more easier on your feet?

I did the JM Route w/outfitter some yrs ago; and during a different year, tried to do the regular trail, but got slammed at Trail Camp with monster blizzard and we all had to head back to the portal. Hoping to do summit hike w/grandson this summer. I will show him this video.
