15:48 guard with the flag. May i enquire where abouts you got that one. One of the best posed guards I may have ever seen. I always feel living in Australia and modelling UK rail is not quite as easy as it would be if we were in merry ol England but like they say the juice is worth the squeeze and it all does pay off. So back to happy wife happy life and maybe I will get another hour before Christmas to noodle with the trains in the meantime you are a welcome refreshment.
@greatchesterfordjunction9 күн бұрын
G`day Joseph, The guard with the flag is a Bachmann Scenecraft model acquired at Woodpecker Model Railways in Pendle Hill, Sydney Australia. He was part of a set of station staff as per the link below. www.bachmann.co.uk/product/category/249/1940s-%2750s-station-staff/36-404 Unfortunately my guard had his flag broken off, so I decided to glue it back on at a different angle. Thanks for your comments and enjoy your trains. All the best Gormo

Seeing the Blue Mountains brought out some good memories. I remember shortly after my divorce, doing a bit of a travel around and hiking in them, up to the Three Sister's?, if my memory serves me right. I didn't get to go on the Zig Zag that time, but if I ever get the chance again, I'll do so, Ineed to save up some money has it's a long way from England. It was interesting to see the two tank locomotives and the Bayer Peacock in the yard, are they going to restore them? One railway I did visit was the old Gang before it was recommissioned. Thanks for sharing Gormo.

Great video and thanks Gormo. I have already made mine from brass knowing full well at some time they will be knocked. Your idea is actually brilliant to have a " bendy" signal post. The attaching of the leds to the lolipop stick was also very cool. I am off to Spotlight in a mo to get all the bits. Bin the brass ones. I have had a lot of bother with them.
@greatchesterfordjunctionАй бұрын
G`day Peter, I have been using the signal produced in the video for 6 years now and it has had a few knocks and yet it still survives and works. The knocks dislodge the ladder from the base in my case, so I have not bothered to re-glue to the base, but rather just leave it connected to the top of the mast. If I knock it, the ladder moves with the mast, so I then just place the ladder back properly to rest on the base and away we go again. I am sure a brass or plastic model would have been killed many times over in the last 6 years, yet my basic craft stick and cotton bud survives...??? All the best Gormo

Great design seems to emerge from clarity of thought, i get that impression from much of your ideas and solutions you have brought to you tube over the years, you always seem to inspire some new thinking on how to solve many common problems that us modellers come up against on a regular basis but may i add in my view i you are consistantly practical in with your ideas. Which provides a lot of food for thought which i find is qiute a challenge to improve or rather in my case tweek this or that a little to own my personal taste, but all the hard work was quite rightly down to your sound and well thought design. Thank you Gormo once again for your wonderful ideas inspirational designs.

Every system has it's pro and con's. And this is my personal opinion, but if it work for you, that's what matters in the end. The pro's here: -cheap way to make your own coupling system -so much better than chain fishing to couple or uncouple -always works where ever you wish to use it on your layout -you can create a universal coupling system The con: -my main issue is don't like the hand of God, as they say, interfering on my layout -a lot of work fitting these coupling if you have a big fleet. -don't like the look of these couplings (again a subjective personal view) There are so many ways to make couplings, but in the end it's a personal choice. But it's good you share your system, there are always people who find this useful. Personally my favorite system is a few magnets in between the sleepers and a staple attached to your Bachmann/Dapol type coupling hook. But also here are pro's and con's Unfortunately all the manufactures have there own system and there is no unified system, and I don't see they ever will come to a uniform solution, even with NEM there is no real strict uniform placement… Anyway as always a great video to look at.
@greatchesterfordjunctionАй бұрын
Thank you Danny, Yes I think you have summarized things accurately. You`re correct in that it does come down to personal choice and I suppose that is the essence of the whole thing. Some people may be happy to persevere with the proprietary systems, but for myself I decided to do something about it and here we are. All good fun in the end and that`s what it should be. All the best Gormo

G`day Barry, It`s a Bachmann 03. Nice gearing for slow running and shunting.......this is my Grandson`s favorite as he likes to shunt Little Bardfield. Don`t worry, you have not put your foot in it......It would take a lot more than that to offend me...lol All the best Gormo

Looks like your magnetic coulplings work trouble free with the miniumum of fuss, and i think you have achieved that very well indeed, but i suppose thier will always be some purists out there who would like it to be more prototypical in opertaion like wagons, buffering back and forth between actual sprung buffers whilst being pulled along, but i think it must work very well with your rolling stock given the size of your layout and different types of stock. i would guess that you very happy with the way it works for you and it looks great too with too many hands of god hovering over your lovely layout . thank you for your your wonderful ideas and solutions that you have shown us i am very impressed with the looks and opertional challenges, with the work load kept to the minium with a great autocoupling system thats is very practical and satisfying. Thank you Gormo you for all your great ideas and running sessions.
@greatchesterfordjunctionАй бұрын
G`day Barry and thank you for your kind words. The couplings are performing really well but they are not for the purist. I doubt the purists would be very happy with tension locks either. What I have aimed for is ease of use rather than pure prototypical looks., because at the end of the day, I want them to work easily enough so that anybody can couple and uncouple wagons without a big drama. This hobby is all about compromises and this is what I am doing. The Hand of God method, once again will have the purists cringing , however they can cringe all they like......I don`t care....because it works. It also enables uncoupling wherever you choose rather than relying on uncoupling ramps or magnets. In short....it`s a pleasure to use. All the best Gormo

Very therapeutic and picturesque Gormo. Thanks for sharing. Its a marvelous layout youve created👍💜😊 Will you be adding signals to this area eventually 🤔 Also have you a video on your stock and locos and what your favourites are in terms of Eg. prototype, or a detailed or smooth running model? What is your main preferred era etc🤔 Thanks again, M👍😊
@greatchesterfordjunctionАй бұрын
G`day Muso, I`m glad you enjoyed the relaxation session.....😄 Unfortunately I don`t have a video showing my favorite locos, but as I only buy what takes my fancy, I like `em all. I am not a purist, so if something catches my eye, I`ll buy it and run it even if it is not prototypical....this must drive some people crazy.......but I think some people take this hobby too seriously.........I reckon just enjoy running the trains you like instead of getting hung up on prototype running this or that. My main preferred era would be from 1950 to 1970.......end of steam and start of diesel. I have designated my branch line as a Heritage railway so that allows me to run whatever I like....😄 Yes signals will be coming eventually......that`s another subject all on it`s own. Take care and all the best Gormo

Certainly don’t need DCC sound for those locos. I do like the positive connection you get with your magnet couplers. 😂 cheers Peter
@greatchesterfordjunctionАй бұрын
G`day Peter, I think DCC sound would struggle to be heard over the growl from the pancake motor. The couplings give a very positive connection and there is never any doubt that they are connected......it`s basically four magnets at work.....two each coupling. All the best Gormo

More excellent work Gormo👍😊 As I wrote in a previous video, Ive gone back to a magnetised shunters pole/torch for now. Ill still experiment with magnets on the stock and Dinghams but Ive trialed so many variants its become a chore. Then there's my small narrow gauge section which is similar 🙄🙄💔🙄🙄 A couple of questions if I may; the areas before and after the road over bridge? Will the matt black area be developed scenically or is it merely a lift out section that's been ballasted? Also the point work just after the bridge looks to have a check rail or extended switch blade, that intrigues me too🤔🤔🤔 Oh and if you know any admin from Platform 1 I cant get into my account, and no one has gotten back to me, any help or advice gratefully received 👍✌️🤞💜 Thanks in advance 👍😊
@greatchesterfordjunctionАй бұрын
G`day Muso, The Black sections are my drop down bridge across the doorway into the room. Normally they would have scenery on top of them, but it is removable to allow the bridge to lower. The scenery consists of a grass bank on one side of the tracks and a warehouse complex on the other side. The check rails were installed some years ago to deal with a derailment problem through the points that allow the trains to cross from one main line to the other. On reflection, it was probably the rolling stock that was the problem, however the check rails remain. I would need your user name to chase up things on P1. You can send it to me at [email protected] if you like and I`ll see if we can sort things out for you. Cheers Gormo

Hey; not so fast. How is it that the drivers on that four-trillion XX sidetanker rotate when the model is pushed? Possibly it is an old Lima? Incidentally, forcing drivers is a good way to upset the quartering - they do it all the time with Wrenn. Was wondering what turnouts you are using? Thanks
@greatchesterfordjunctionАй бұрын
G`day Peter, The loco is a Lima model that has had a CD motor conversion. The CD motor gives very little resistance and will rotate using the gears and wheels when the loco is pushed. I doubt there is any risk to the quartering in this instance. The turnouts are Peco mediums code 100 on this part of the layout. All the best Gormo
