How does the audio research compare with the prima Luna pream and amp?
@MixMatchStereo5 күн бұрын
@rickyblair2375 I don't have a Prima Luna pre amp, but I have two Prima Luna power amplifiers, the DiaLogue 5 and the DiaLogue Premium HP, I love them both dearly, but in my honest opinion the Audio Research components are on another playing field.

@willgatlin8229 I've been doing this forever, that's what I do, I really love hearing different systems, that's why I love audio shows, hearing different systems in different rooms, so what I do is create audio shows in my own home, before I got married I had a stereo in for rooms, I'm very happy with my Dynaco ST 70,Love it, I have four of them, but that's not what I do, I love to mix and match and have fun, I'm not trying to find the absolute sound, I'm not even a true audiophile, I'm just an individual exploring the world of music with my creations, I enjoy every component that I purchased, if I see something I like, that's really intriguing,and I have the funds, guess what?

Good job there. Let me give you a little history on the fantastic plastic remotes from an Audio Research guy. The plastic is where they started, cheap as all get out. Audio Research eventually moved to a metal version of the remote that looked exactly like the plastic one, but it was metal with a screw on back that held the battery, this started around the time of the PH8 phono preamp and in some of the newer cd players, but it was hit or miss if you got one. I got one with my PH8, but some people didn’t as Audio Research was phasing out the plastic ones, but still had plenty left. Then when the remote control manufacturer went out of business and stopped making the cheap ones or the metal version of them, they moved to the new metal version that you see in the video, which could be ordered from dealers at a price of $150 dollars and was able to provide legacy support. Some people made the choice to pay and that is why you often see two remotes in a box, the old fantastic plastic, which was really a piece of crap that you had to baby to keep the battery clips from breaking off and the brand new metal one that is now included in all new components going forward. I choose not to buy one of the new ones. I own the Audio Research LS-27, which is two steps down from what you have there in the video, but my model is the last one to include a gain stage of 6, 12 and 18 db, which could be selected from the remote and the gain of each input could be adjusted differently. It is why I haven’t updated because it gives me unlimited gain at the low, mid and highend for vinyl with my Audio Research REF 2 phono preamp. I can dial in any cartridge on the market and get more than moderate gain without too much noise. If I upgraded at this point it would be for a Ref 6 or 6se, but I don’t see that occurring anytime soon as I still love what I have. I have heard that the ls28 se is REF like in nature. I wish you much enjoyment from that piece Sarge and keep us informed of the progress.

I have two of those books and I agree Robert Harley knowledge knows no boundaries. I have been involved in audio since 1985 and the first thing I bought was a Sony integrated amplifier, with a turntable and cassette deck and speakers. I have also went down the receiver route, then integrated again, then pioneer separates, then much later a full blown home theater with screen and my separates in a music room upstairs. During my military time, Air Force, I owned a full blown Nikko system, power amp, preamp, equalizer, loved it and my knowledge grew. One can never know everything about audio because it changes so much, but it is a fun journey. I have owned two of my dream tape decks, a Nakamichi Dragon, this was sold and my now current Nakamichi RX-505.

A year ago I bought a Sunvalley 300B from Japan via a distributor in Vancouver. A very plain looking unit with a set of new Western Electric 300B tubes. (5-year warranty on the tubes). I really love the sound and like you said, only 8-watts, but it’s only a power amp. I like the first track you played as I think there were too many things in the signal chain on the second.
