I figure they sometimes choose women to voice male characters when the audience is mostly young kids, so a character sounding like them is more relatable than if he sounded like an adult man.

Thanks for the tid bit into Anno's directorial life. It would seem those times he said nothing or was vague. I can think of 2 reasons why production went the way it did and does, One Anno had nothing to offer. And waited for the action director to come up with an idea he could either like or dislike. Or two, Anno is the kind or person that needs something tangible to look at, to come up with an idea of how he wants a scene to play out. People can complain and trash on the guy all they want. Just keep in mind that despite his negative attitude at times. Many of his Anime may have been bad if not for Anno complaining and telling everyone to do it over and over again, until he was satisfied. This is my own opinion, which could be completely wrong or right. IDK

now I understand why I'm (and a lot of people) so interested in Gura's voice, she has very an usual accent on her debut day, it's not the typical american, in fact I wasn't even sure if Gura is from America. Her voice (dialect) is just very intriguing. I'm guessing she was trying to hide her identity. Bottom line if you want to attract people I guess try to speak with particular dialect / accent.

I remember watching Mamour Oshii's Dallos, but I first watched it on TV back in the early 90's under the American title Battle for Moon Station Dallos. I love the ending when the Moon Station'e eyes glow and how the protagonist Shun Nonomura and his grandfather were at the cemetery and looking up at the Earth.

Controversial opinion; I prefer English dub. I really don't like childish/woman voice continue when character matures (for example, Naruto). There was a good opportunity in the story line to switch voices too. (Bulma balloon scene for DB, returning from training with Jiraiya for Naruto)
