Seeing the (American) ID system and having to go through it (because you can't get a job or a driver's license, or a bank account without it) it's absolutely fucking ridiculous. You need a ton of useless paperwork like your birth certificate, school records, hospital records etc. And our system is so broken that you have to get there at the ass crack of dawn in hopes that the line is not too long because they close so early in the morning for literally no reason at all. Same situation with getting your learners permit for driving as well. And that's only talking about walk-in tag agencies if you even have one in your neighboring towns, otherwise you have to schedule appointments SEVERAL MONTHS out!

You need those documents to prove who you are and that you are an actual legal resident of the US with an SSN and not some random person. Sounds like your state sucks because most all of them now have an online system that will let you register for an appointment and even upload most of these documents then just walk in to prove you exist, take a photo and they hand you the ID as you leave. Permit exam is literally just; walk into DMV, take 20 question exam, and walk out, what are you smoking?

Are you high, what American id, US doesn't have centralized id and it's a big problem actually, closest thing in US is driver license. Yeah it's so broken I opened an account at BofA on my 3rd day in the US, got a driver license on my 14th day. Let me quickly guess the simple fact about you, you've never been outside of the US. Btw centralized IDs are super great if properly integrated because you can literally interact with all gov services without having to go there at 'ass crack of dawn'

i have a friend who still doesn't have a good way to get their birth certificate. the hospital of their birth is no longer existent

@greenl7661 10 ай бұрын
@Wyspy Oh wow almost like your friend would've never experienced this problem in the first place if digital IDs were a thing and he was issued one automatically at birth and it would still be valid and online even if that hospital got nuked off the face of the Earth.

Yeah, this reminds me of years back when American was going to create a manga specifically to promote on keeping the alliance between and Japan the same and distribute it to the Japanese youth. Anything targeted at kids in the guise of child friendly entertainment is always gonna be cringe if not outright creepy.

Feels like an implementation problem rather than inherent fault in universal id. There are implementations that can restrict access to an id while still retaining universality in verification method like block chaining. Cant find a id you dont know about yet, but you still can verify a new id without refering to a central system.
@KumaBones
@KumaBones 10 ай бұрын
@@temperultor7602 no, It's inherent fault with universal ID. The only time i'd push for something like universal ID, is the job required it. I.E. being a pilot, but we already have passports, or licenses for that. Using a blockchain system for authentication/verification is a good idea though.

If it's found out some of the money was missing and were used to fund some sort of corrupt scheme involving some fantastical sci-fi element (laser/kinetic weapons, mechs, busty cyborgs, etc), THEN it'd deff' be like an episode of SAC.

I don't agree with his actions, but Ted Kaczynski made some good points about technological advancements. 15-20 years ago, I was all excited about the future; implanted computers and other "enhanchers." Now? You couldn't offer me *_anything_* do further digitize myself beyond what I have already, stupidly, done. Call me backwards or a luddite, I don't care. I've realized, as I have gotten older, that we have been making advancements for the sake of advancement, not for our betterment. Digital IDs and Currency are a shackle and chain, neither of which are beneficial to individual Liberty; they are its antithesis.

Not only that, you'll be vulnerable on all sides. The government can eff you up whenever they want, or when you're not complying to their overreach. The notorious hackers who has the ability to hide behind the shadows can eff everything up in a blink of an eye without you noticing, etc. Seriously though, call me a conspiracy theorist, but I'm also an IT student that at least knew the importance of private information and the detrimental effects of having a very digital government.

@@gampie13 let's talk about naivety, nothing stops government from freezing all your bank accounts, sanctioning you via OFAC, which btw literally means that every US business and individual is forbidden to transact with you in any way including cash, revoking/changing your registers including identity and property. The delusion which you conjured in your mind that it's not the case is only in your mind. Btw gov can also literally fabricate evidence and charge you, or even better they can directly order judges to convict you. Digitizing doesn't change anything nor does it give new vehicles of power.

Kudos to the japanese people. They have their brain celss functioning They know that the hyper-digitalization of personal data can lead them to vulnerability risk, in which the government will say "We are depply sorry, it won't happen again" everytime. The only benefited here is the government.

Even my "developing country" has that, and the majority of the population uses it xD It's just much more convenient, anything from registering to vote in elections to getting a metro card to opening bank accounts. It immediately verifies: 1.) You are a real person 2.) You are a citizen of the country Eases up a lot of paperwork, just insert the card
