This may be a dumb question but why would you want to grow a fruit tree for wildlife? All of my fruit trees I want to keep away from deer lol not attract them.

This may be a dumb question but why do you grow them for deer? I don't think most crab apples are edible for humans but I figured most fruit trees you would want deer to stay away from. I'm just curious why you want to attract deer.

My trees from Blue Hill are very vigorous growers and have surpassed all other brands of trees I've planted. These are the only brand I recommend for deer hunters. Even in poor WV soils I have not been disappointed by Blue Hill's trees.

Wanted to ask y’all, my chestnut crab apple tree has about 8-10 flowers on it should I keep the fruit on it since it’s just got planted this spring or should I snip them off? Thanks !
@BigWoods406 ай бұрын
I would pinch them off the first couple of years. Will put more energy into growing. The few fruit you would get off a young tree isn't really worth it anyway.

Your trees are growing faster than all the other apple trees I have planted in my food plot. Looking forward to ordering more this fall. Maybe some pears as well. Thanks for a great product

Awesome trees & advice Ryan. Hey I live here in southwestern Colorado ( Ridgway) & just ordered6-7 trees from you guys . 3 apple , 2 plums & 2 pears . I’ve planted many aspens & blue spruce here & native shrubs the last few years that are doing well & installed at least 1,500 of drip lines & irrigation system. However I’ve been using 14 gauge wire 60-72 inches high with steal T-post & 1/2 2ft wire around trunks to prevent rabbits & mice from girdling. Have slot of big mule deer 🦌 that love low hanging branches & Buck rubs from their antlers I am trying to protect from destroying my trees. This is the 1st time I’ve heard of using the Tubes . I’ve ordered standard stock trees from you guys but was wondering if I used the tubes 60 inches would they eventually reach above the tops & be high enough out of reach when they mature from these Mulies to not reach & ruin them ? ? I know it would be less expensive going with the tubes on your videos & chicken wire but concerned it wouldn’t hold up to these guys ? lol Great info , I grew up outside of Pittsburgh, Moontownship near the airport & my brothers , cousins & Uncle have a place in Kane , PA where we grew up hunting & fishing . Thx again for your advice . 👍⚾️🦌

I'd rather cage than tube, but I plant a lot of trees, and fence has gone through the roof it sounds like you're doing it right in your location. Tubes bring a tree to life earlier in the spring and keep it going more in the fall. With your location, this could cause problems for you if you get late or early freezes. I would keep doing what you're doing or test on a few trees with some 72" tubes.

You don't recommend tubes for trees on clonal root stock ... why? Thanks for the video.
@Biophile239 ай бұрын
Guessing because most clonal apple rootstocks are dwarfing to one degree or another and they might not have the vigor to grow out of the tube. I'm guessing semidwarf or semistandard rootstocks would be okay (M111, B118 and the like). At least I hope so as I'm trying some tubes on some of my semidwarfs.
