Software dev making a few ticks over 10k/mo post-tax and over 200 pre. It's not enough. Living in a HCOL area with a wife (kids in the next year or two) and golf habit, I'm trying to figure out what sort of businesses I can bootstrap myself now. I'd dig some content for people higher up on the curve but still not smashing it yet. I'd also be curious to know how you monetized your skillset outside of the typical youtube spiel of side hustles, real estate, etc.
@HunterOBrienTV21 сағат бұрын
directly speaking, there are certainly lots of of ways to do it. If you are skilled in coding and dev...there certainly is an angle in building an agency offer around that. In my experience of building a content agency, the secret sauce is finding a offer that is really simple to deliver (for example editing short format instagam reels is much easier and scalable than fancy commercials that take weeks to edit)....I imagine the same is present for dev. In my case, I learned how to scale a education business...which looks like partnering with a content creator or influencer, learning how to create a offer people want, learning how to build a Instagram DM Funnel, And then learning how to run paid ads on Meta. This is pretty clear cut and dry system and if you are someone who doesn't want to be the "front man" then it's a good system and massive opportunity to find a influencer who doesn't know how and willing to profit share. I am planning to make a few videos on this next ;)

@@HunterOBrienTV Very cool! Thanks for the insight. I need to think about what an equivalent offer to your example of short form vs long form in the dev space would look like. I've done a fair amount of contracting outside of my 9-5 to generate side revenue but haven't been picky about the type of work I take on. Having a social media based funnel to give myself more optionality in the side gig work I pick would definitely be useful. Looking forward to your future content!

@@HunterOBrienTV Prop firm are companies that give you funding $$ to trade with . The way it works is that you pass challenges set by the prop firm which would be making a % of the amount of funding you want . Catch is there are rules in place that if you breach you will lose the account. So in a short way you buying funding from a company for a cheaper price compared to your own capital . This allows you to trade 6 figures without having 6 figures

Great video. What would you recommend for someone who doesn’t have any hard marketable skills? Like having a channel or knowing guitar. Document the journey of learning those?
@HunterOBrienTVАй бұрын
Hey mate. It’s a dynamic question with lots of different ways to be successful BUT in my opinion, If you want to start off with getting paid for a skill, I would research a skill you could learn and start applying for work. Some examples, remote sales, remote setting, content creation, running ads. Then you could start working in some one else’s business and see the ins and outs of how it works. Then if you want, you can go create your own info business, agency, or paid membership. I think to start though, getting paid to learn Is a good place to start, that’s what I did with video editing

Would you rather have a camera with good auto focus but mediocre stabilisation or a camera with good stabilisation and mediocre auto focus in the context of travel Vlogs/cinematic/flogging? Thanks
@HunterOBrienTV2 ай бұрын
In terms of vlogging, I would prioritize the auto focus over everything. If you are vlogging, audio doesn't seem to important (to me) as you are out and about and ambient noise ads to the vibe of the video. But if you are struggling to stay in focus, that would be a pain in the but. I personally don't think "stabilization" matters much...if you get good with setting up shots, hand held shot skills. But all cameras generally include that in the lenses these days

What would you recommend if I just want to shot pictures/ make reels of myself on instagram? Sony ZV1 or canon g7x mark iii?
@HunterOBrienTV2 ай бұрын
hey mate. Honestly, IT is more about the wizard not the wand. Now adays, I would stick with an Iphone.... or if you want to get a camera, get one where you can change out the lenses. Like sony ev10 ii ....or get an older model like the original canon R ...which is much cheaper now cuz its an older model but still takes amazing images.

That part in the end, even if you can teach yourself online, unless you're applying for a job that is portfolio-heavy, you WILL be overlooked if other applicants have a degree and you don't.
@HunterOBrienTV2 ай бұрын
objectively speaking, I imagine that depends on the job and industry but in my experience, I have found being a "cultural fit" and having good communication skills trumps that. But also, I have never applied to a corporate job so I would not argue that point in that case.

Would the ZV1 be a good choice to start a small KZbin channel, with the camera locked down?
@HunterOBrienTV2 ай бұрын
hey mate...directly speaking, i think it is more about the wizard not the wand. And I would also say, the Channel idea, topics, titles, thumbnails, and all that are where the magic is....AND! Yes, I believe you could acheive that with the ZV1. With that said, now adays, I would say you are better off using your Iphone as they are pretty powerful. I would suggest investing in a camera only if you are willing to get one with interchangable lenses. That way you can upgrade or change lenses...that is what makes something look cinematic or have a specific look more so than the camera body. the sony zv e10 can do that and its an introductory camera....or I would get an older model of the canon cameras like the original Canon R and a used lens on a site like KEH camera.
@kevin2jzzzz203 Жыл бұрын
Would any of these be good for day to day pictures? Nothing really profesional mainly looking for something compact with Nice decent picture quality.
@HunterOBrienTV2 ай бұрын
directly speaking, I would use an iphone over these for that. I would only invest in a camera with interchangable lenses, The lenses are really make the shot look cinematic or "like it was shot with a camera". That make sense?

This video is for typical 20-somethings with no down payment for a house and certainly not enough to buy without a mortgage. TONS of people from other states have enough equity that they could EASILY afford to move to CA and buy with no loan.
@Phantom.1 Жыл бұрын
You can EASILY find houses in TX with 10-12k a year in property taxes. Sugarland, TX, for example.
@Phantom.1 Жыл бұрын
This is so unscientific. You’re cherry picking the most expensive cities. Then you’re using the average rent as if everyone will pay that average. Then you’re using the word “everyone” all the time. Then you’re comparing CA rent in the three big CA cities to the average US rent that of course includes TONS of cheap housing in podunk areas or slums where almost nobody watching this video would ever live.
