I Never created a webcomic before, but I want to do one that I know its big, I know its complex, but Its characters that have grow up with me, I don't expect the story to be the best thing ever (I was 12 when the characters was first created, so yeah) I Just want My art to be seen, even if It just by some couple of people :)

This is a very helpful and inspiring video! Not the first one I've seen on the topic but still mostly new and useful info. I especially agree with the message in the end - be your own biggest fan and you'll be pleased with your work. Also, your style is very clean and crisp and the character designs are rad!

Great video! I have a question... Where or how can I print a spot color? Especially about "on demand print".. How I can get it? It seems every digital printer only use cmyk process colors.
@simondrawsstuff

Really depends on your location. I would say that you should try to look for local print shops rather than big on-demand websites that usually aim for a more streamlined approach.

First of all, this is a wonderful video, as someone who's been doing a comic on the long run for over 6 yearsw at this point and having only published 7 episodes, seeing that most of these tricks and techniques are ones that I've "developed" in an auto-learning process makes me feel actually really good. I'm going to add something I do regarding the 3D models for bg that you said a bit before 9:16 So, I'm a recently graduated architect, so naturally, I know how to model buildings and sites (and I do not mean to brag, but even in my field I'm actually REALLY good at it), and the method I use consists of modeling EVERYTHING in the softwares that I use with are Blender and Rhinoceros+Grasshopper; however, instead of using the 3D models to take screenshots and draw over them, I actually Render them, filter them with fotosketcher to give them a painterly look, and just stright up slap them in the background, so I can focus on drawing the characters and the fight scenes (because it's an action comic) I have yet to finish the video but first I just want to tell my experience with the comic: It's a fanfiction on an existing IP, so obviously I cannot make money out of it, despite the cast being 96% OCs with the remaining 4% being from the original franchise; however, I've always been so passionate about this story that I continue to pursue to somehow finish this massive tale just to get it out of my head, but at the same time, doing this project has helped me grow so much as an artist, as a writer, as a storyteller, and as a person; but not only that, I have managed, in parallel, to develop some original ideas only left to execute them that would have probably never come up if I hand't done this project. That said, you've earned a new subscriber.

Great video tons of information and options. Do you have any videos or tips for making large letters for the title of a comic for the cover?
@simondrawsstuff
@simondrawsstuff 4 ай бұрын
I often end up doing those by hand instead of using fonts, to give it more of a unique look and personality. So I would recommend treating it like drawings - do some rough sketches (you could even start with a font and then transform it or draw over it) and then finalize it later on.

@simondrawsstuff

I'm sorry I'm seeing this so late - I hope you were able to figure things out. I am not participating this year. It would have been fine to just show a normal WIP screenshot of whatever software you used to create the program, I think. I personally only submitted the timelapse because I already had it thanks to the Clip Studio Paint feature, so it seemed like a good thing to do. Good luck in the contest!

❤ Your video is really beautiful and useful. It is a video I watch over and over again, thank you for everything. 🙏 For coloring, you did not explain the general coloring except for coloring the "line". I noticed that you do the coloring in the raster layer. I learned something about it in another video, after all, what's the point of vector work if it's not all vector (line and color)? He does the coloring process using the speech bubble. (It works like in Adobe illustrator) Video name:" How to ink and COLOR with vectors in Clip Studio Paint! | Dadotronic" from CLIP STUDIO PAINT channel
@simondrawsstuff
@simondrawsstuff 6 ай бұрын
Thank you! The video focuses on lineart, so that's why I did not go into my overall coloring process. The reason I don't use vector layers to color things is that you cannot use the fill bucket on a vector layer. I generally try to already set up my files in a big enough resolution according to my needs; and even if I had to upscale artwork later, my style often deals with flat color fills rather than super detailed work on a coloring layer (which upscales more easily). For these reasons, I am okay not having vector layers on my colors. Using the speech bubble seems like a creative idea! Personally, I really like the fast nature of the fill bucket tool. When making comics, every bit that speeds up the process is helpful!

Heyy, thank you for the tutorial! Would it be best if one was to change the colour profile to CMYK before finishing the artwork? Would the colours look (in theory) the same if it's cmyk from start to finish? Thank you
@simondrawsstuff
@simondrawsstuff 6 ай бұрын
If you create the image in CMYK from the start, then yes, the colors will look the same when you export it in RGB. It does limit your color selection, of course. So I think whether that's the best option depends on what you're going for! If you plan on using a lot of bright and vivid colors, and want to primarily share the image online, even if you offer some prints, then it might make sense to work in RGB first, and then optimize for CMYK later. Inversely, if you primarily want to focus on printing your image, and hope to give people an accurate impression of the colors even when looking at the image in your online store, then it might make sense to work in CMYK from the start.

Getting text aligned to the text box feels like a living nightmare. I was hoping this would be something mentioned in this video, but is not. Am I missing something? When I resize the text box, the text moves around unless it's exactly in the center of the box, but there is no way to make sure it is exactly centered, so it's this game of jiggle the box, jiggle the text, jiggle the box, jiggle the text, and so on. Any advice?
@simondrawsstuff
@simondrawsstuff 6 ай бұрын
Once you have a text box, pulled up, you can select the entire text in the text box and pull up the "Sub Tool Detail" window (small wrench in the bottom right of the "Tool property" window). Here, go to "Line space/alignment". Select the "Center" Alignment, and select the "Center" Position in frame. Hope this helps you!
