@@loveamour3907 they won’t charge you for a semester/billing period if you’re not enrolled in any class. Are there any coworkers or friends with a Masters that you can ask?

I’m 90% done as well. I’m just waiting for my preceptor to be available. I wish Capella was more helpful when it comes to preceptors some of them are charging a terrible amount of money. Luckily, I got my preceptor for 500.00 I only need 100 hours. I feel bad for the people that are coming behind us that need 500 hours because these preceptors see it as a way to gouge students for money that’s why I wish Capella would step in. We’re almost there😩

If you can find someone at your job to do it for free, I would highly recommend picking them. Also, hospitals or clinics can do it for free if you can find someone working there, the approval process just takes longer I’ve heard. A lot of NPs with their own private practice charge students because they know we’re desperate to finish, which is sad.

Sorry for the late response. Do you have a preceptor yet? Also, do you know how to access Core ELMS? The first step is filling out the agreement form in the requirements section on Core ELMS. That is used to see if the preceptor is affiliated or not, and once it is they will send you a confirmation email. After that, you fill out the site prospector form and the other requirements except for “ready to review”. Once your site prospector form is processed, you submit the “ready to review” form and wait for them to send you a final approval email.

I’m proud of you Ruby!!! I just started the MSN on 10/7 & plan on knocking out the first 7 courses in one cycle. The other 6 require practicum hours and I haven’t found a preceptor yet. Nurses are charging $3750 for those 500hrs 😢. Meanwhile, I’m not in a rush 👩🏽⚕️📚

Thank you! And it’s wild! I would say try some of the sites on the affiliation list, especially if it’s a larger hospital or nursing home they may do it for free. If they have a website try to search who is in their education department or in a nurse leadership position and email them. I noticed it’s moreso NPs with a private practice that are charging high, that’s why they’re willing to do it. Let me know how your search goes!

I’m in the Leadership & Admin track. Something that helped me decide was looking up jobs on Indeed for an MSN in each track. In my area, admin and education had the most opportunities

@@beautyjourney375 is your coworker in a leadership role? Most of my coworkers have a BSN (including my DON). There is one that has an NP but hasn’t used it and isn’t in any leadership roles

Love your channel! I'm new so you may have already touched on this but can you explain (or point me to the video) how the practicum hours work for MSN flexpath? I see it is 50hrs for a couple classes, 100hrs for another, and 200 for another but are these virtual, in-person, shadowing, research? Thanks for allowing us into your journey!

Thank you! For MSN Flexpath for anyone who starts prior to October 7, it is 100 hrs for the Care Coordination, Education, and Leadership specializations, and 200 hrs for Informatics. For the 100 hrs, 20 can be used for research for your capstone project and the 80 would be with your preceptor (virtually and/or in-person). I’ve seen some people say they just do shadowing but for Education you have to do a couple of hours of teaching. For those starting October 7th and after it’s 500 hrs for all specializations (they didn’t specify how many can be used for research). Hope this helps!

It can be really quick if you stay focused. They’ve been changing around some of the graduation requirements so make sure you double check the details before you start

They have a long list of locations that they have affiliation agreements with but it is up to you to find a preceptor and reach out to those locations or find your own

When I worked at a group home I didn’t really get much training, so I wouldn’t recommend. Unless you are comfortable with learning as you go along. It also depends on the group home company that you work for

Probably something in admin like professional development or quality/risk management. If you have a strong interest in working with psych patients after your MSN I would recommend NP, but if not look into the other MSN specializations

yeah im a new grad on a medsurg / telle unit just bec they didnt have an opening for mental health so i took the night shift and oh boy its so full of stress

I started on night shift and have been night shift for the last 22 years. I have been on many units. I keep saying it is best to start nights on Med/Surg for 2 years and get a base experience. I also had a few weeks of orientation (about a month) and was thrown to the wolves on my first shift on 4th of July. I took 8 patients on my first shift. I precept now, and I have my preceptee do a lot of hands-on work and at the end they tell me they have learned more with me than any of their other preceptors. Being "thrown to the wolves" will end up helping you in the long run while you have someone who is still able to help you. Imo. 😁
