In my opinion, this game wasn't a mistake, because it introduce me in one of my favorite franchise of all time, I played the trilogy a few months ago and yes, I have a lot of nostalgia with this specific game but I remember loving the gameplay so, it was really good to start loving a franchise (at least gameplay wise)

This might be a hot take but to me HL Alyx is a colossal disappointment. Not because it came out like 13 years after episode 2, not because it is a prequel. But because it is a VR game. In their endless race to innovate Valve inevitable alienated a big chunk of the community by making a game for what constitutes as a gimmick. And while it looks pretty and cool and innovative, the gameplay looks slow and tedious. I'm sure that it's "better when you play it" but to me that is pretty much a final nail in the coffin. Maybe one day we will get a remake of this game without VR, Black Mesa style.

Valve have said that for stuff you see on TVs in the half life games its actually happening somewhere WAAAAAYYY off in the map, fully animated and everything and the TV is just displaying a lower resolution camera like the players with a filter. I also REALLY love the concept of characters like Gman/The Outsider/Gaunter O'Dimm. Seemingly godlike entities that help you just because YOUR fate is more interesting than anyone elses (until the story dictates you kill or at least BEAT them at their own game). Yes I know Gaunter is a VERY high level Demon but he fills that Gman role too.

i think gman always wanted Eli alive, and used his death as a bargaining chip to get alyx. But he always wanted him to survive at the end, because alyx telling him to "prepare for unforseen consequences" would mean fuckall if he died shortly after. It seems Eli still has some role to play in the story.

Sly 4 wasn't an mistake because Grizz in Finnish is one of the best things ever. He just yaps random stuff and it is hard to not laugh because of his voice and random yapping

I couldn't finish sly 2 because the game glitched on me & i got stuck on jean bisons lumber camp even though i already beat him . Just as soon as i was running to hop inside the battery my mom turned off my ps2 the following day i was trying to play but the game glitched & i couldn't move on to the next level

11:47 that scene is hands down one of the most iconic scenes in gaming history. It always gives me chills. The uneven tone, the ambient music, the words used. Absolute masterpiece unmatched by any game in recent years. If Valve continued to make games they would have been the most successful gaming company in human history.

I loved this game to death as a kid, but one thing always bothered me. I played the game in norwegian, and the entire game was dubbed in norwegian except the final cutscene at the end. It suddenly changed to swedish. Altough I had no problem understanding it, it always bothered me that they dubbed the entire game into norwegian except for the verry last cutscene at the end of the game 😂

Dr.Magnussen is the best, I understand his attitude. He's truly focused like a Soldier to put his 100% to succeed, at the same time he's too proud of himself (all falls when the rocket is launched as he scream "yes! It worked! I'm a genius i knew it!" In partial disbelif 😂). I liked the character instantly.

The thing i loved most about the Vortigaunt encounter is just how lifelike it felt. On top of it being already so immersive in VR, the fact that his movements and animations were so crisp and well detailled made it feel like i was there, actually talking with him. The fact that it also isnt treated like a cutscene, giving you the freedom to move and look around just made it feel so natural. You had the choice to look around and ignore him... but because the voice acting and animations were so masterfully done... you genuinely didn't want to. Easily one of the most mind blowing encounters in all of gaming.

I doubt it but with the OG trilogy on ps5 now it be awesome if they release 4 with egypt in it or make 5 after a Sly 4 PS5 release

16:57 I just hate the fact that Sly gets treated like an ass for lying to Carmelita and then everyone just ignores that *she lied too*. Yeah Sly faked amnesia. But she was happy to take advantage of that and tell him he was her partner instead of the truth. And she never once gets called out on that. I would have loved for there to have been a reveal that she didn't *really* believe it and the truth was just an open secret between them that they just weren't letting themselves really acknowledge because they both know they wouldn't have been able to get together without that initial lie. (At the very least because everyone else buying it seems to have kept Sly out of prison somehow.)

The more I go back and watch these HL explanation videos, the more I'm convinced that The Combine is Apature Science from the future. Chell was basically and augmented human in the first Portal, like the Combine soldiers are.
