Its so hard to bend 😢

More info for people: The torx screw size (on mine at least) is T20, tho I've heard some machines use a T15. That metal clip, which itself isn't just simple metal, didn't do a thing when I tried this. But removing the entire metal clip let me bypass the lock.

I forgot to put one thing in and hurried to open lid and of course broke that blasted lock. Great vidio although I already ordered a new lock harness. Will try this if it works and return part. I'd like to tell whoever decided to fit these idiot things on washers what I think about them. How on Earth did humans survive without them?😅

Thank you so much man. This is exactly what I was looking for.

Get to the switch and use zip ties on the two sliding parts to keep them locked down. My switch was all busted up and it still worked. I zip tied the whole unit under where the hole is, and took out the connector on the lid with an allen wrench.

My new sw.must have arrived in a lock position.lid wont close? Yes i forced the first replacement lid sw open.and busted it.

I forced the lid open and now the washer does't work, I think I broke the lid lock switch. is there any thing I can do to get the washer working with out having to replace the lid switch?

How hard is it to bend it back that far? I just tried it and could only get it to bend maybe 15 degrees. Washer still doesnt work.

I wish I had seen this video first. This is the only video that gave a simple solution that worked. I wasted my time on other videos that did not solve this problem.

I bought this washer and hated the fact that I couldn’t open the washer during a cycle and especially in the beginning of the wash when it’s filling up the basin. After watching this video, I went to follow your steps but tinkered with it myself and I literally just used electrical tape to hold down the locking mechanism and unscrewed the latch on the lid so it didn’t get caught inside and rip the tape holding the latch down. That worked like a charm! I wish I could show you a picture. This video is great too but if you’re too nervous to open up the washer or disassemble small parts, the electrical tape was just as effective. Will probably have to redo from time to time but I’ll just keep the tape handy.

I cannot seem to open the locking mechanism itself. I have the torx screw nudged in between the holding clip, just as you show. Not budging. put torx screws in both sides to hold both clips down, but it won’t separate top from bottom. Any ideas?

Okay late to the party but I have the exact same model and there is no metal tab...could it have fallen off? Is there a way to gerry-rig it or still make it stay unlocked?

whirl pool......pos.....the lock locked permanently.....had to open with crow bar.....power board no lights except the on that indicates it's locked....what a crappy piece of equipment..............the repairman said he made more$$$$$$ on the exact problem than any other

That washing machine is so filthy, putting your clothes in it would only make them dirtier. Why bother?

THANK YOU! All I did was bend back that little metal tab and it worked again! I did not have to take apart the case, the metal tab is on the outside of the case

How do you bypass that so i dont have to buy a new one
