Whirlpool Washer Door Lock

This is how to bypass the lock on a model with auto locking lid. If your lid can not lock anymore due to a damaged lock ( usually due to the lid being forced open) you can by-pass like this. This may not work in all Whirlpool lid locks. #Whirlpool #Washer #Lock

I bought this washer and hated the fact that I couldn’t open the washer during a cycle and especially in the beginning of the wash when it’s filling up the basin. After watching this video, I went to follow your steps but tinkered with it myself and I literally just used electrical tape to hold down the locking mechanism and unscrewed the latch on the lid so it didn’t get caught inside and rip the tape holding the latch down. That worked like a charm! I wish I could show you a picture. This video is great too but if you’re too nervous to open up the washer or disassemble small parts, the electrical tape was just as effective. Will probably have to redo from time to time but I’ll just keep the tape handy.

Yeah. I too didn't like the fact that it locked the door. Keeps you from adding to the load after you start the process.

More info for people: The torx screw size (on mine at least) is T20, tho I've heard some machines use a T15. That metal clip, which itself isn't just simple metal, didn't do a thing when I tried this. But removing the entire metal clip let me bypass the lock.

Get to the switch and use zip ties on the two sliding parts to keep them locked down. My switch was all busted up and it still worked. I zip tied the whole unit under where the hole is, and took out the connector on the lid with an allen wrench.

I forgot to put one thing in and hurried to open lid and of course broke that blasted lock. Great vidio although I already ordered a new lock harness. Will try this if it works and return part. I'd like to tell whoever decided to fit these idiot things on washers what I think about them. How on Earth did humans survive without them?😅

would this work if the lock is still working fine and we just want to bypass the lock? lol i dont really understand what the tab does or anything without me actually taking one apart and see whats actually goin on with the mechanism

I don't see why not. The metal tab only presses a button when the lid is unlocked. When you bend that tab back on to the frame then it can't press that button and keeps thinking it's locked.

Yeah. Well it will stop when the door is open but then resume after closing the lid.

I understand the lock but it is hands down the worst thing about the washer. It takes FOREVER to stop the cycle and unlock the damn door. The washer has became so much easier without it.

Follow the video. Fold back the switch and it will fix the issue.

I cannot seem to open the locking mechanism itself. I have the torx screw nudged in between the holding clip, just as you show. Not budging. put torx screws in both sides to hold both clips down, but it won’t separate top from bottom. Any ideas?

Definitely not! We bought that one in that video for around $70. That's when I decided to tinker with the old one to bypass it.

How hard is it to bend it back that far? I just tried it and could only get it to bend maybe 15 degrees. Washer still doesnt work.
