As far as the kids not wanting the food you have then they can go hungry. The wife on the other hand that’s a tough one. But the point is you learned so much.

I have been trying to get a 100W panel to run my small pond pump for a long time now. It will run the pump in good sun, but my inverters short out when power in gets too low. Any suggestions?
@timmeier8863 Жыл бұрын
Bill my pond pumps keep tripping my inverter also, to me I thought it was a moisture/grounding issue, so I did other stuff off of panels that weren’t so sensitive to make up the pump difference,my situation allowed it yours may not ,good luck.

you cheated! You were using 4 panels!

We lost power during a hurricane, lost most every thing, cooked on the grill and had a outside fire pit, No power for over 3 months, trees down and flooding so lessons learned us the freezer went bye-bye, canned food and dry food not much kept in the fridge, now we have a solar generator, no matter what we do nothing is perfect but never give up !

Rice and beans with cheese=complete protein. Not a punishment. Cans of Chicken, Tuna, Salmon make great sandwiches or tacos. The ever versitile peanut butter. Garbanzos/ chickpeas/Cicely beans mushed = hummus (a dip). Ramen noodles are versitile (Nissan and Top Ramen have recipe books. Parmesan and Ghee (butter) are shelf stable. Did you know Soy means water? (soy sauce is a fermented salty water sauce). Rice, tortillas, pita bread, naan, pasta, crackers are basically a platform to put all your tasty things on. Learn to eat what other people eat and learn from them how to prepare it. Condiments and spices make a world of difference when it comes to food.

So the battery ran all of that for over 12 minutes. The panels just slow charges the battery. I'd only run the lights and use the USB ports to charge my phone or tablet up. I'd run like a small 5 amp fan. Might want to invest in the Tailgator 900 watt generator from HF to run the other devices.

Power outages are the worst. They aren’t the worst case scenario, but it’s a complete disruption. Everything is just on pause. You don’t know when it will come back on, so you’re just twiddling your thumbs waiting. Every aspect of your life is affected, but nothing to an ultimate extent.

Your solar panels aren't providing the power, the battery is providing the power, all the solar panel is doing is trickle charging your battery the power is coming from your battery why are you saying it's coming from the panel?
@Hacklefatchet Жыл бұрын
I was hoping to run the pump from only the panel/ Now I know it is not possible. Thanks!

Not to be a douche, but this is why they say buy only food that you and your family will eat. The time to find out they won't eat it isn't when you need them to. Just food for thought.

I would recommemd to get a variety of different foods. Everytime i go to the grocery Store I buy 2-3 new cans for my preps of something I dont have. I feel like so many just store beans, rice and pasta which will become boring rather quicky. Here is some inspiration of what cans i have prepped: -meat and veggie pasta cans in 6-7 differnet variations -spam meat -tuna -fish in some sauce, differnt flavours -white beans and kidney beans -potatoes -soup -Chicken broth -pickels -olives -spagetties + different sauces -sausages -rice -lentils -mushrooms -corn -peas and carrots -tomatoes -pineapple -mandarines -peach -mixed fruits -oaths -salt & sugar -a few spices -scrammbeld egg powder -water bottles -instant coffee -wine and liquor And of coures a butane camping stove with enough fuel and a few burning pastes. You can have a different kind of spaghetti/rice/lentils nearly everyday by mixing all the ingredients differntly each time :)
@valerieannrumpf41514 жыл бұрын
Consider it a lesson learned. You can always can add to your preps. Have a short term food stored, 3 to 6 month food storage and long term food storage for more than 6 months.

Don't be discouraged. Although the ice storm emergency was temporary, the preps that you've invested in did not go to waste. In a real, definite and mid to long-term emergency, your prep investments will indeed come in handy because I believe that there will come a time to where many of the fast food places will be in the same "grid down" situation as the mainstream society when that time comes. Learn from this incident, re-strategize and improve on it is the only advise thay I can provide you. Keep at it because in the day and age of the 21st Century/2020, anything adverse can happen. 5-6 months ago have taught us (who are alert and aware) of what can happen during a shutdown situation. For those who are not (alert and/or aware) of the shutdown event that took place 5-6 months ago-the logic did not register with them as that event being a pre-cursor of what very well may come in the near future. Don't give up. Keep doing what you do. It will pay off in the end.
